Hi all,
I'm trying to install a NEP throttle lock on my 03 and i can't seem to get in on right with out it binding up. I got the CC-3 for a dual cable Honda, but i can't seem to get it to work right. and as the instructions are very much lacking could anyone put up some good close up photos of their NEP throttle lock on their 6th gen so I can see what I'm doing wrong. this thing looks and is so simple that I'm not sure what i can be doing to screw it up. Mine is an ABS model if that makes any difference.
If its like mine, and from searching on the web it looks like it might be, mine was sticking/grabbing/hanging-up when I first put it on too. I had to slide my rubber grip on the throttle outward (on the plastic sleeve - not move the whole assembly) which then made me have to trim some of the grip off the end because it then hung-up on the bar end weight. Been fine since.
The NEP throttle lock does not work well on the VFRs (91 to present(?)) without any modifications to your grip and/or the NEP thingy......that's why mine has spent all it's life in my junk drawer since I bought it in 1996 for my VFR. I just couldn't get the proper clearances needed between the throttle grip and housing to make it work properly without resorting to cutting up a few things. I did get it to work on my previous bike, a Hawk 647 GT, but the VFR's throttle assembly seems to have tighter tolerances that impeded in getting the NEP installed and working properly. I suggest you just check out other alrenative like the clipped on "throttle rocker" which provides a large tab on the throttle grip so simple downward pressure from your palm can keep the gas on for long distances or just get a "Throttlemeister", the expensive bar end weight that screws in to provide friction agains the end of the grip to keep the throttle positioned where desired.

+1 this is good general advice and not VTEC specific. It's most likely too much friction against the rubber hand grip. Slide a thin, long screwdriver between the grip and white throttle housing and work it around till you break enough of the glue's grip to slide the grip outwards about 1/8 inch or so. Sunlight and time should let the grip, errrr, "re-grip" the throttle housing but some more adhesive may be necessary.
I turn the allen head screw in until the throttle won't return by itself (engine not running) and then just a smidge more (technical term). You should still be able to return the throttle to closed WITH the NEP locked. If not, it's too tight.
My CC-3 works without issue? Do you have stock grips or other? Moving the grip over a tad(another technical term) should fix you right up. I love mine to death and would hate to ride without it!
I would also not recommend using an NEP throttle positioner with an aftermarket grio heater as I think that the wires coming from the grip heater can get tangled or jambed against the NEP mechanism.
Stock grips and no heated grips. I'll try and move the grip over tonight and see what happens. If I still have strouble I'll snap a photo of where it is binding at and let you guys take a look at it.

Mine has worked fine on two VTEC's and my 4gen without drama; only needed to move the throttle grip out a tad.
And with a couple wraps of tape around the placement tab for a better fit between the slightly wider Aprilia cable spacing on the throttle housing, it will also fit the Tuono. I've been fortunate enough to take care of one for the past couple of months but sadly, it's leaving today with the new owner. Errr, the Tuono that is not the NEP. Unfortunately, that goes back on the shelf as there is no way to make it work with the speed triple.

Do you want to see pics of my install? You do have to take care when routing the wire, but I've had zero issues with my Symtec/NEP combo... I just looked at my wires, and they're fine. Been on there for 4 years now, iirc.

Here are a couple of pics from mine which I installed a couple weeks ago. I really had no issues whatsoever.
Do you have a photo of where the tab slots inbetween the cables?
Thanks,
Here's a pic from underneath. You can see the square plastic piece in between the two cables.
I believe I had to kinda trim that piece of plastic to make it fit between the throttle cable tubes coming out of the switch pod when I installed one on my Hawk GT years ago. It might be the same case for older gen VFRs.

Got it!. I did have to take the dremmel and grind down the mold/support ribs as they were causeing a mis alignment with the groove on the throttle. that and the grip had to be moved over just a bit.
