I came across an ad last week for an '84 VF1000F......"the first Super Bike", as the ad phrased it. :fing02:
It needs some work, obviously. The photos showed the tank in primer, and various plastics had cracks, etc. But it's all there.
Asking price? $600.00
But, here are the problems, as I see it.
1) First, I don't have $600.00. Maybe half that, but that would leave me flat. :ohmy:
2) It's located 3 hours away
3) I don't....LITERALLY.....have room for it. There are 5 bikes shoehorned into half my 2-1/2 car garage now, with my VF750 being stored at work temporarily.....because there's no room for it here. :mellow:
4) I don't have any $$ to put in it anyway; there are 3 projects ahead of it. :owned:
That being said, I'm not one to walk away from something rare and collectible. NADA prices this one between $2,000-$3000.00 depending on condition.
So, what would YOU do?
Right now the thought process is; WALK AWAY.
But I don't wanna be kicking myself 6 years down the road.
Several on line for sale in the $3k range, a couple in very nice condition, garaged, never dropped, etc.. However, I say $600 isn't much of a deal considering parts availability/price/work required. Either way it seems to be a mute point if you have no money and no room.
its an 84.. not a gear driven model.. thats a "NO" vote from me.

Anyway the bike is a chain-driven cam model. Not really collectible unlike a VF1000R (gear driven cam)
Comfortable, lighter than the 1000R. Too bad they are so butt ugly! :warranty: :biggrin:

I've got only one, and it'll never look that good! (That bike belongs to vf1000rs)
But I can dream...I bought my F for about $500 awhile ago knowing I wouldn't have the $$ to fix it up anytime soon. But it's solid, titled and just waiting for some attention. Talk the guy down to $300 and get it! (I drove 4 hours to pick mine up.) ;)

I've overcome worse odds....
I can walk away with no regrets, as long as I'm not missing out on a "hemi 'Cuda"...if you get my drift......but from the other posts, it sorta sounds like there are a fair number of them out there still, at reasonable prices.

I hate when people make suggestions like this....that's how I wound up with three project bikes!

Just ask your parents if you can have more room in the garage or get rid of some of the other projects you have in there that are not of the caliber of the VF1000. You remind me of me a little bit. In a few years you'll be paying someone to haul all of those bikes out of there.

I paid $350 for my VFR 700, had it on the road the next day. Pass on the VF1000F, and look for a second gen VFR.
Gear driven cams, it's a good thing. :fing02:
