Just wanted to let any members in the Denver/CO Springs area know, that a gentleman by the name of Glenn is doing the silicone type molded ear plugs for $25/pair+tax (~1.83). Funny, I had to check his craigslist ad to verify that it is NOT my brother Glenn. He is an audiologist and we've had the custom vs. foam discussion and he agreed that foam is usually BETTER than the customs. I suggested several years ago that he set up a booth at the National Motorcycle Convention back when Denver was still one of the stops on their tour so he could sell customs. He said then that it was too expensive and labor intensive to make much out of it. Now I just threw out a recent moto-mag that compared about a dozen ear plugs from the 99� variety up to several costing over $100. Now I don't remember which mag had the article but they came to the same conclusion.

FWIW, went to Ear INC in Boulder this past spring and bought two sets of custom plugs... one with speakers and one without. One of the best decisions I've made.

Seriously interested in something like this for my wife. The reusable silicone style work fine for me, but hurt her ears something fierce, and she can never get a good seal with the foamies. She'll get them in and then bump them with her helmet...then as the riding day progresses she has a harder time getting them back in right. I see you're in Athens - do you ever make it anywhere near Jacksonville?
I got a pair of WERA803's plugs at T-Mac, and I didn't think they made much of a difference.
Until I took them out to talk to the border guard... I left the border and the wind noise without the plugs was incredible. Stopped at the first exit and put them back in.
Oh, and super comfy even at the end of a long day of riding.
So, yep, worth every cent.

Talk to the pro for specifics on her ears, but mine did hurt some due to being too deep for my ears. Ken (wera803) trimmed them up for me, and now I can ride literally all day. I've gone 7-8 hours at a time without taking off my helmet even for a minute. :fing02:

Not normally, although I have been thinking that my Corbin seat needs to be recovered by Sargent and would just take it there. :biggrin:
I do get to Jennings, FL for track days once in a while and I am heading to Orlando the first week in December. Maybe we could make something happen??

Okay, I promised I would respond after talking with Big Ear................Glenn is the owner of Big Ear and based in Colorado. He is trying to build the business back up after some economic issues and has decided to advertise the plugs at a low price just to get people interested in them. Because of his efforts, he has gotten a couple of people signed up as providers (people like me), sold some stereo plugs, etc. I understand his thinking and willingness to build the business, although I think it is hurting his network of people like me. He makes money selling supplies to me and is selling the plugs cheaper than what it costs for me to buy the supplies. If I sold plugs for the same price he is, I would lose money on every set. Not to mention credit card processing fees, the labor it takes to shape and coat them, the liability insurance I pay, and every other cost associated with owning and running a business. I also donate sets of plugs like I did at T-Mac 2 years ago. Those come right out of my material and pocket. Big Ear doesn't reimburse me for things like that.
Big Ear sets an MSRP, although I don't think I've ever sold a set of plugs for that price. I'm not trying to make a killing on the price of the items, just cover the costs and make a little money. I try to provide a quality product for a reasonable price. Businesses don't continue to grow if they lose money on every sale.

This was my first post on this site and I didn't mean to cause such a ruckus. The first time I went to Glenn's house, he told me that he wanted to change his business model and was wanting to stay home (~230,000 miles on the road last year, so he said) so he could watch his kid play basketball. He said he was training new reps to go on the road for him. That day there was a guy from New York being trained and another guy who said he had worked for Glenn for 5 years. They filmed a You Tube training film while I was there. He just had a table like you see at the shows set up in his dining room and it didn't look like he was opening his house up for business.
He also said that he was only going to offer this price for a couple of weeks, and it was only on the motorcycle type ear plugs that list for ~$85 on the web site. It didn't include any discount on the $385 ear plugs with the earphones, etc. Hopefully, he'll hold true to his word on the 2 weeks and set the price back to where you can still make some $ on your ear plugs. I should have provided this additional info in my original post and I'm sorry for not take the time to include it.
