I called mine Red Delicious once in front of a room mate and he started calling it that all the time and then I did. I wasn't trying to name it. Now I'm married and thats what the wife calls it. I feel guilty, though, because I stole it from somebody else on VFRD.
PS The last time somebody ran this thread, it became of the more comedic things I've ever read. :lurk:

+1.
Bought it on a Saturday, low-sided it on Sunday. Fractured hip.
Replaced all damaged parts. Foot slipped off of the center stand, Christine fell over, broke it's mirror and bodywork. Wife barely jumped out of the way.
Took to Sears Point Raceway, blew oil out between the seams of the oil-cooler under high pressure. Covered the entire right side of the bike (rear tire and all) as well as my leathers from elbow down to boot PLUS 7/8 of the entire track! Friggin miracle no one crashed. Track closed for two hours to clean it up.
Replace oil-cooler, clean 1.5 quarts of oil off of engine, bike, etc. Take for a spin. Blows electrical breaker mid highspeed sweeper. Survive the turn. Can't figure out why breaker tripped.
Took to Laguna Seca Raceway on a two-day track session with promise to sell "it" if I made it safely through the two days. Made it. Christine slips off the rame during unload, falls over and breaks my finger. Dents tank to make it harder to sell.
Kid comes to buy Christine. I tell him all damage and repairs and that I will take "it" back if he has any problems. Kid gets bike home. Next day, kid fires it up (not supposed to ride it until his dad gets home) stalls. Won't start. On the phone I walk him through finding the reset switch. I hear bike fire up, rev, Rev, REv, REV then pandamonium! Kid and other voices screaming, "Oh no, oh no, oh no!" I'm yelling into the phone. "What happened? What Happened? Is everyone all right?"
Kid comes back on the phone and says, "Dude, I dropped your bike." I reply, no, you just dropped your bike. Christine strikes again, but to a new owner. But wait, there's more...
Kid calls me again the next day. Aparently, gas spilled out of the carbs when Christine was laying on her side. When they stood her back up, they fired her up and she responded by bursting into flames.
Honest to God. True story.

I, on the other hand named my VFR after another inanimate object, A "ring " from the "Hobbit"(Presious). Read the book.

My 01 VFR is named Molly because she is not the best tool for the North GA mountains so when we make it up for a ride I am "Flogging Molly"
My 99 Dinan Stage III S/C M3 was called Oskar for quite a while but my nephew started calling it the "giggle box" and I think I have finally settled on "Fenway". It is a little green monster.
Past vehicles were "Betty" (black truck), "Heidi" (white 1983 NMW 323i) "Thor" (1994 VFR - shoulda named it for his hammer but you get the gist), Buster (old 1978 CB550F) but a vehicle has to reveal it's personality to earn a name...sometime difficult for a Honda because they hardly ever display anything but appliance like function.

I also own the car and the truck.
The wife and the kids... Got'em too.
P.S.
Just re-read the title of this thread and to answer the question...
I'd rather NAME my bike given the choice.
'02 VFR800 goes by Ruby Rod, due to its obvious color, its ambiguous gender (movie: 5th Element reference), and speed of light.
'85 CB700SC Nighthawk S is the Bad Boy, my hooligan bike that I frequently transgress on, it is a simple uncomplicated machine rendering it a definite male.
'08 DRZ400S is known as Nimrod, The legendary hunter and explorer of the Old Testament fits the dual sport persona.
'78 DT175 earned the name Naughtious Minimus after the little 2 stroke engine holed through the piston on two occasions stranding me several miles from home.

My RC45 is named Mr.RC45 because he has more balls than I do... that is 5 balls in the VIN... you see in the USAF we referred to the zeros in aircraft tail numbers as balls... Mr.RC45 is balls 2...

09 CBR 1000RR Repsol was fast & flashy, everybody lusted after it, I felt it was a Whore! So I called it "Ginger" after Bobby Deniro's wife in Casino. I totaled it...... In the end she died & I was almost killed myself.. Just like in the movie!
My Cage is named Serenity...State of being!
Dont Kno what Im going to name the 1200f when I get it.
The Gen4, is Marvin. Full name: Marvin the Melancholic Motorbike. His name sake is the "personality prototype" robot from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. When I bought him, he was 2000kms away and had been sitting for nearly two years with a cracked starter clutch. The owner (his first) repaired that but couldn't get it started. I had already book the plane ticket so he worked well into the night for several days trying to discover the problem. Marvin just didn't want to fire. Eventually the owner discovered that he had assembled the starter clutch incorrectly putting the firing 180 deg out. He was a commuter for all those years (I bought him this year) and much unloved. He still bared the damage from his first drop when only 2 days old. The owner kept up a very good log book so it was looked after, just not cosmetically. Now he's with me, rode the 2000kms home without a drama. The restoration project is called "Marking Marvin Marvelous". After the re-birth I am giving him, he'll no longer be melancholic and will be known as "Marvin the Marvelous Motorbike".

My CBR is "Quicker."
My previous, a Canadian 93 was snow white.

Honda only imported 56 RC45s to North America in 1994... Vins #1 thru #5
were imported to Canada... Vins #6 thru #56 were imported to the US to
satisfy AMA's 50 bike homologation rule. Freddie Spencer got Vin #6 the first
stateside RC45...
We don't know why but RC45 Vins #1 thru #5 have overlay of numbers...
I first noticed this down in Tijuana Mexico... Mr.RC45's VIN sticker
appeared to be altered... up close I could see that the zeros and the
number 2 seem to hiding more numbers... It was obvious that each
number had been attached separately, not by machine, but with human
hands. Good thing the numbers were clearly sealed in the factory
plastic lamination... bit still the thought of a hot bike was a
defiantly an "Oh Sh*t!" moment...
After all RC45 balls 21 was stolen back in 1998 and my friend Ezio died
looking for it ... the bike or any of the HRC parts have ever been
recovered... it's still a mystery today...
I first got to know Ezio after he read Mr.RC45's Mexico story... he
suspected that balls 2 found in Tijuana was really his stolen 21 with
the number one ground off... plausible but I emailed my assurances
that Mr.RC45 is truly balls 2... It didn't work despite my follow up
phone calls and close up pics of the VIN... Ezio actually flew out to
Laguna Seca where Mr.RC45 was on display at Two Brothers tent and had
a look for himself... Well his heart sank on one account but was
lifted on another... it sank faced with the truth that his prize is
still missing but there was still a slight chance of recovery... RC45
owners still share his grief today...

I saw the thread entitled " Charlotte "where to ride" and thought Charlotte would be a great name for a bike. Charlotte my harlot. How and why do you give your bike a name?My last bike(S) were beemers. My K1200RS was affectionately known as "Das Pig" due to being a bit of a porker. I love my Honda VFR, but because she is a machine that does what she's told and is uber reliable I don't call her names. (Unlike my Beemer).
I love my Honda VFR, and hope to keep her for almost ever!
Back in the day my sister called our grey Pontiac 6000 "the slug"
She also called our white caravan "the maggot"
My dad has also attached the name "space junk" to my XS650 as it is taking up space in his shop.
