Just got back from my 2nd track day, highly recommend Lyle Rogers Motorcycle Excitement group, they are a great bunch.
Anyway, my track bike is now GP Shift, and what a difference. Take a little getting used to, but it just makes so much more sense. 1 up, 5 down, more clearance in left turns, and you always have more time to downshift than you do to upshift.
So I want to make my 2000 VFR a GP Shift so I can relearn the muscle memory. I see it can be done on a 6th gen, but it doesn't look too promising for a 5th Gen. Anyone figure this one out yet?

by some rearsets from your fav brand ..made for some thing with the same spacing.. and flip the linkage.
not sure what fits your 5th gen i know cbr900 rearsets fit 3rd and 4th gen
5th gen rearset design is unique to the bike and would require some custom fabrication to create an adapter that would accept "conventional" sportbike rearsets. Once the adapters are done, any rearset could be bolted on and linked to the shift shaft with parts from McMaster Carr(custom linkage consisting of heim joints and a turnbuckle linkage). Easier said than done, but by no means impossible!
How'd you like the CBR vs the viffer on the track Marc?

Hey Seb, how are you buddy? Let me tell you that CBR is an ANIMAL!!! It is much easier to operate on the track, takes a lot less effort to get around. Would have liked a little more torque on the straights, but no bike can touch it in the corners, which is the most fun anyway. It wasn't noticeable enough to make me want to go get an S1000rr, YET.... But I think that is my next bike. 2 years down the road though, I have to stop spending so much money on this, it is really getting out of control.
I am going to do Keith Code's superbike school next year, level 1, and maybe level 2, to check out the big BMW. Then we'll see.

I use F2/F3 shifter and linkage.
Hey, that looks pretty good, can you elaborate? I'm looking for the cheap and dirty way to get this done. Is it easy to switch back to standard?
Seb, whatcha think?
You just get the set up from an F2 or F3 and drill a hole on your bracket so it lines up with where you want it . I ground a nut down to fit in the back side of the bracket. It works great. I've done it to three 5th gens. If you want it back to normal shifting, just flip over the part on the shaft coming out of the engine. After you get used to it, you'll never want it back normal. It feels so much more natural. I've had all my bikes like this since 1993.
