Italian Red with black front fender?

I bought what was described as an Italian Red front fender to replace the original (cracked) unit on my '03. It arrived and weeks went by before I took the time to bolt it on. And it's not R-157! It is MUCH more orange and that will bother me. So I am thinking about painting it black.

What does everyone think?

JMHO.... But it doesn't look balanced to me..... I'm thinking another colour of your choice... Something that shows up........

Maybe two tone red/black.....wide black in the centre (1-3rd)..... with the outside being red...........just an idea.......

I would go with the black...but then again my fender is bowling Ball Blue :laughing6-hehe: I do like the black but maybe as Monk stated a red strip...

I reckon you'd get away with black and it will prolly be easier than trying to match a 7 yr old paint job. :wink:

If you can confirm that it's 2005 R258 Winning Red, instead of R157, then I'd be tempted to buy that one from you.

Why not have a pro body shop paint it R157?

I like it. I like Veefer800Canuck's too. I think his works because he has more black accents (e.g. lettering) on the bike.

Chrome ! It will match the tail pipes.

How about chrome with red, or red ghosted/ semi transparent flames on it?

Nothing wrong with a bit of flash here and there.

if you think it will clash too much with the rest of the bike you could always mask off part of the side fairings and paint part of them black as well

I think it looks alright.

The 6th gen red was a bit more orange, while the 5th gen red was a bit more pink. Neither were really pure reds.

Do you want to have it repainted so it matches the faded red? Or, as some other said, black (vinyl?) side fairings just ofr the bottom part, or just one black stripe on it? Or VFRD stickers?!? Sorry, I have no intelligent solution to contribute to this. Good luck.

If I'm not mistaken most all VFR's in 4th, 5th & 6th gens thru 04 were R157 then in 05 they went R258 Winning Red which has a much higher Orange content! :blush:

I painted my fender black with no ill effects

4th gen red was different (R158P?). 5th & 6th up to 04 were R157.

Thank you everyone. My in-house fashion consultants assure me that the paint match isn't that far off and that I should just leave it alone.

Add some more black to the bike, like a bra, or on the lower fairing as seen in my avatar, and I think the black fender would look pretty good.

This probably means it was painted by a muppet who used a white undercoat rather than a grey undercoat. It happens a lot.
