My dad used to describe the sound from his 78 CBX with an aftermarket pipe as something like a racing Porsche when he pushes it. Seeing/hearing this video, I now believe him 100% :fing02:

My Harley friends used bag on me for riding that Jap Crap, rice burner when I rode with them. I let one of them take it for a ride at one of our stops and he never let anyone talk smack about my bike again. I had an '81 model. My first street bike. Hell I wasn't sure what it was but I loved winding that thing through the gears on a quiet desert highway.

If you look closely at around :34, I think our man gets the bird flipped to him. Bike sounds fantastic.

Is that what I think it is on the rear tire? Both in the video and still? Can it be...chicken strips??? Looks like it, if the typical roads in the area are as that shown in the video, they are not very conducive to scratching the rubber. On a bike as trick as that is, the owner should at least pull out the rotary sander and make it look like he's going as fast as the bike! :laughing6-hehe:

I think it has something to do with people that like to form moving road blocks showing their displeasure for the ones that won't put up with it.

Man i remember all the challenges of owning an X-carb nightmare-exciter box failures-but nothing is as glorious as one on the boil!
There used to be a shop in cinci call cincicycles that i have been to a couple of times-nothing but old school big bores CBXs, KZs, all modded. I think he went out of business, though. My wife called the X the money pit-and not in a nice way!

I'm not sure I could burn modern sportbikes tires to the edge if I installed them on my Dad's BMW R60 either.

The 6 cyl CBX sure has a nice sound :musik20: , a bit like a race 3-series BMW :tongue:

I know a local guy that has one and has stock muffles changed to car type 2 inch simons silensers. Had a massive sound untill the primary drive chain broke........

Okay, now I'm getting depressed. The next best sound to this (if not equal in sexiness) is my VFR. This depresses me because I'm selling my VFR and already have a deposit on it. I bought a F800S which sounds like a detuned lawnmower.

I have had the privilege of riding with three CBX's through the mountains of Colorado. One rider named Florie had de-baffled his six into six exhaust. This CBX sounded more like a Detroit diesel than a motorcycle. Sure got the attention of the Fountain Police at the Pikes Peak Motor Speedway.

Here's a similar video of a CBX... This guy's no slouch. That's his buddy is following on a Kaw ZXR750. This was taped back at '95 at the Isle of Manx.

If you scroll through the other videos in the sequence, there's one of this bike or a similar one doing a high speed pass by a stationary camera. If you close your eyes it could pass for a Porsche 917 passing by you on the Mulsanne straight. You almost expect to open your eyes and see Steve McQueen getting behind the wheel.

Yes, it did put a nice hole in the engine case....
Bike has not been ridden since....
