I was just wondering if any of you have used the Durafix aluminum welding rods before and if so could you tell me if they would work to re-attach the end caps to a set of modified 6th Gen exhaust. TIG welding is obviously superior brazing but I am still curious to know more about this product since it only requires a propane torch and no flux required. Please see the video below if you are not familiar with this type of product.
I have NOT used it personally, but i understand it is SUPPOSED to be better than the parent metal. Since the AL is just window dressing anyway, I would say try it and grind it smooth and see. You can always have it TIGed later, if needed.

Yes, and they are the High/low pressure valves for a steam turbine. I made the actuator arms. :) With the Inconel knowledge, valve rack comment and being from PA are you in the power industry?

How did you guess? LOL Spend 15yrs working for Elliott TurboMachinery as a welder / mechanic / sometimes machinist / plasma spray coater. Repaired, and rebuilt steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, and other things. Now a control room operator (and jack of all trades there) at a natural gas fired combine cycle power plant (2x1, 620 MW), in the south west corner of the state. :biggrin: Working at Elliott. I got a GREAT education there! :fing02:

That's the order I'm trying to follow too though I'm a little less millwright and more welder. I eventually want to end up in a plant-maybe I'll catch a shutdown at your plant someday,lol I got into it through the guy that taught me to weld, I was a kid with a dim future and he gave ma a craft and a chance. Said guy was the head of maintenance at a combined cycle plant where I lived then left to start P.I.C.s boiler division. Now he's started his own company called Southeast Boiler and Rigging in Woodstock,GA if you ever need emergency or scheduled service give him a try :) Ok, I'm done hijacking the thread. Sorry, I get excited meeting a like minded craftsmen that "made it" :)
