I guess I'll say a thank you from Oz since I do a decent amount of posting on VFRD (read budding Post-Ho :blush: ).

Actually, both states of New South Wales and Queensland (my home state) are feeling the effects of more than usual amount of rain over recent weeks (with associated localised flooding). Australia is quite flood prone; it's largely a low-lying nation and the populace mostly inhabits the lower coastal fringes (the 'outback' part in the middle is arid with relatively few people living there).

It seems to me as the years progress that we're either in some kind of drought or there's too much bloody rain. Sometimes part of the Nation is dealing with drought and bushfires while there's flooding in other parts of the Country. These last sentences are probably a bit overstated but I guess you tend to remember the difficult times while the more 'normal' years fade in our collective memory!

Sadly there's been some loss of life associated with the flooding but thankfully most of the damage is largely limited to crops, livestock, and infrastructure which of course is deeply regrettable but not the end of the world. Australia will come through this very soon but in the mean-time my/our sincere thanks for your thoughts and well wishes.

I have been keeping in touch with the Australians I met in Redlodge this summer, they are from Queensland. The Matriarch Dawn owns an industrial safety equipment buisness and the rains have really but a damper on her sales (pardon the pun). She is saying she and her family are more inland are not directly involved with the floods but she says for as bad as it is, the loss of life has been minimal. She remembers worse times. They came to the USA and rented Harleys and toured diagonnally across country great folks

thanks guys, yep record floods up north, in fact the area of land underwater in NSW and Queensland is about the same as France + Germany

I am not sure if it is good news or bad for me, of course it is bad for all those luckless people caught up in it, but the flooding is
all around the places I go to work. My Truck with all my work gear is parked on top of a hill in Rockhampton, which has just been cut off
by road rail and air, and will remain like that for the next 2 weeks until this big "Bubble of water" flows down through it and out to sea.

I guess I will get a chance to stay at home for a couple of weeks, May get in some more day rides, so all is not lost for me.

Yeah the whole centre of Qld is flooded. The family and i are stuck in Brisbane until we can get through. I was looking at the flood map to see if we could drive around it and we could BUT;

We'd have to drive down into South Australia, under the Simpson Desert, then up the Stuart Highway (Goes north, up the very centre of Aus), the across to Mt Isa to the coast, and then down to Mackay. We're talking maybe 5 or 6000kms!

In stead I am flying home leaving the family with relatives, then flying back down to drive home when we can.

You guessed it - my house is half underwater! VFR okay tho!
