1985 VF1000R....Projects begin somewhere.

Thought I should start a thread for my new project. I just picked up it up on Sunday.

It hasn't ran in about a year, but did when it was parked. The owner parked it because the front caliper siezed and he didn't want to bother fixing it. It is missing some parts and has had some bodywork at some point, but should be a fun project.

Parts I know it is missing:
Wind screen
right side cover
Tail light trim

The forks need a complete tear down and rebuild as both seals are completely gone....
Rear shock is probably similar.
Will probably get an F2 front wheel soon, but might get a rear as well.

Looks like fun with a lot of cussing and beer!!! Take your time and be patient. Blank canvas is the best starting point. There is another member on here form CO who has done some amazing things with a '86 VF1000R, VF1000F and a older CB900F (I think a 900). For the life of me I can't remember his handle (VF1000RS maybe). Anyway, he may be able to assist. Seems like a down to earth guy with super powers when it comes to resto-modding the older V-4's

I see you're down in the Springs. You, Tom(VF1000RS) and I need to have a VF1000R get-together sometime. I need to rebuild my forks too.

There was an R in Canada for sale recently that looked real similar. Flat black doesn't really do it for me, but that bike looks like a great start. Keep us up to date on your progress!
