Well, it's about a week 'til March, and you know what that means...
Only another month or so until riding season begins in NE Ohio! Woo-hoo!! :biggrin:
I'm taking one class at a time in grad school now (MBA) and likely won't make TMac or any other big multi-day organized ride this year. But I am planning to do more single-day rides to SE Ohio, NW PA (Allegheny Nat'l. Forest, for example) and whatever other trouble I can get into. :wink: Also hoping to do a few simple overnight rides and maybe one tour between school sessions/semesters if possible.
Anyway, I was just wondering how many of my Ohio buddies have been checking out VFRD thru the winter months. Shout out here if you're around. Hope to see all of you for some fun group rides this Spring and Summer! :fing02:
I'll be in Cleveland over the summer. No idea how much time I'll have for riding, but I'm sure I'll have some time to putt around.
Looking forward to the riding season here too. It's only 13 degrees here this morning--where is the sun? I spent the winter getting the bike ready to go--now if only mother nature would cooperate! I'm looking forward to spending time in WV and Northern Georgia--riding the mountains
There were two freak days end of last week, when I was able to ride to work.
I clocked outside temp @ 70F! In the middle of February!

I bought my VFR in October last year so I am really looking forward to putting some miles on it this year!!! I took it out around the block the other day when it was about 50 outside. I didn't want to ride longer because I didn't want to have to clean it. Let me know whenever you are up for a ride and I will try and make it happen.
I am still considering Tmac if I can meet up some guys and ride down together. I haven't made any plans as of yet.
Hope to meet some of you guys soon and get some good riding in!

Boy, that's the truth. But the last two weekends here have been fantastic weather. So, my riding season has officially been reinstated. :cheerleader: We just need a couple of good hard rains to wash the sand/salt off the mountain roads.

Will gas prices getting jacked up already due to turmoil in the Middle East and Africa, and with 'summer driving season' coming soon and $4-$5 per gallon prices being forecast, I'm planning to start my riding season as early as possible. ~40 mpg on my VFR beat the heck out of ~26 mpg in my CR-V. Plus, of course, the bike is more FUN!
Just hoping for a couple good rain storms in mid-March to wash salt and junk off the roads before I start riding. Hate for that crap to end up on my bike, plus road salt tastes terrible! :angry:
I'm also hoping we can start doing group rides by mid-Spring, maybe late April to early May. Whaddya think, Ohio (and near Ohio) peeps?

I dont see any rason why I cant scare up Burns and Jimmy and trapse on over to Ohio at least once this summer.
Howsabout a ride to mid Ohio for the vintage daze also?

Yeah it is already at $3.50 a gallon in the Seattle area. I don't even wanna think about what they will be in summer. Either way, we got it way better then the Euro's. Those guys get royally screwed at the pump, especially factoring in the Euro is worth about 30 to 40 percent more then the dollar haha.

Sounds like a plan. Looks like Vintage Motorcycle Days is set for July 22-24 this year. I'm busy that Friday night, but the rest of the weekend is open at the moment.
I haven't been to VMD yet, but it sounds like a blast. Hope it works out for all of us. :fing02:

A jump to Euro level prices would cause a bit of an fu in a place like Los Angeles.
We have such an awesome err, nearly non existent public transport system.
Maybe I should buy stock in a couple of the companies making electric bikes. :idea3:

I saw a show on cable a couple years ago about how the Detroit's Big 3 basically killed LA's public transit system, or at least part of it. I guess LA had a good train system, but somehow the Big 3 got it shut down so people would have to buy cars to get around. That story always reminds me of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" where 'Cloverleaf' buys and shutter the Red Car trolley system so, yep, people will have to take their cars everywhere.
OK, back to riding.
More snow and ice coming tonight and tomorrow. I haven't complained about winter yet, but as riding season gets closer I'll start groaning about this foul weather more and more. :pissed:

Ahhh, can't wait Tim!! I've been riding the ugly GS as much as possible but am waiting impatiently for the warm weather. Pick a day and i'll do my best to make it up there, hopefully along with some of the cinci crew.
Raining and 50s turning to snow this weekend....but I think I feel that spring warmth in the air....Can't wait to get outthere!
Cannot wait for riding season to start already. Just need to wire up a cig lighter and change the oil in the VFR and shes good to go and get out of the garage. Always up for riding to new places!
hi all,my first ride out this year was cold to start off 8c then the sun came out 12c i did 70 miles mixed riding ,much loose gravel and holes but i survived and enjoyed the ride and no bike probs. :fing02:
Weather is improving here gradually. Could actually see temps and weather decent enough this week to start riding. :cool:
But first I need to pull out my K&N air filter - because A) it needs to be cleaned and recharged, and B) I've read too many horror stories of mice nesting in them over the winter, so it's the first thing I'll do this season before riding! :laugh:
Rode to work today about 36. But yeah cant wait for better weather and more riding !!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a couple decent days here in NE Ohio over the last week, mostly rainy but warmer, but now we've been hit with another winter storm. :rolleyes:
Looks like the start of my riding season will have to wait until at least next week. :mad:

While we've had warm days and what not for the past few weeks, there's piles of salt everywhere :( The last couple of days have gotten us rain adn the roads aren't so white anymore. Hopefully within a week or two I can retrieve the bike from storage and get ready to start riding!
Looking forward to this year, have one of the Regional Scenic tours from MAD MAPS and have been going over one of the trips on Google Maps, looking forward to a day when it's at least fifty five for most of the day to go try this trip. Been nice a few days in March, have about three or four hundred miles this year, next few weeks should be it, hope anyway. Well forgot, it snows at least once in Cincinnati every year, hopefully this will be the year it doesn't!! Take care all!!

Removed and cleaned my K&N air filter yesterday and let it dry overnight. Oiled and reinstalled it this afternoon, then went for a short ride after dinner. Just 7 miles but it was a blast! Always a really neat feeling being back on the bike again after 4 months off. Took the corners slowly due to remaining salt and grit on the roads, even after a couple days of rain here last week. There are also a ton of very nasty potholes all over the place - some bad enough to cause a crash or at least damage a front wheel.
I still need to replace the front CCT and all my brake pads, but neither is an immediate need. I have the parts to do both jobs, and hope to have time next weekend to do them myself.
Don't know how much riding I'll get in soon, as we're expecting rain and even some snow this week, but at least the bike is out of its hibernation spot and ready to roll. ;fing02:
