OK so I started a thread a few days ago about my bike not having any power with a full battery. I thought I had the problem solved with a loose connection. Not the case, I don't think that connection was loose at all just luck that I unpluged it, pluged it back in and it started. Bike broke down again yesterday. What happens is: I turn the key on, the dash lights come on, press the start button, starter relay klicks then nothing, no dash lights nothing. I brought the volt meter down today, with the key in the off position the battery has a full charge, turn it to on and the battery voltage drops to pretty much nothing, .002 V. I checked for voltage with the key off at the red wires at the ignition on both sides of that connection and it has juice. I start looking taking the wires off the battery terminals to check for contiuity and voltage leakage, when I attach the wires to the battery terminals she's alive again. Once again, the problem is solved too easily (not really solved). So I'm still messin with the battery wires, disconnect the positive and reconect it, no power, do it again, power now. I'm completly confused. When the bike is running battery is charging. Charging system seems to be working perfectly. I've gone over the bike a few times looking for frayed grounded wires, can't find any. Battery terminals are clean and tight. Grounds look fine.
I had the bike apart the other day before all this happened. I had a tool touch both ends of the battery and arced it. Also when I was taking the tank off the petcock rubed someting and turned itself on and I spilled gas all over including onto the battery. Here's my main question: Can a bad battery cause this type of voltage drop between ignition key on and off? Could I have caused this by arcing the battery or spilling gas on it, it is a battery from Walmart.
Since I got it back together I have ridden it home, and turned it on and off about 30 times with no problems. It doesn't do anything wierd when it's running. Could a bad battery cause this, or am I to continue chasing wires around in circles looking for something wrong?
