In case you're wondering, ETSAHT stands for Estimated Time til Super Awesome Happy Trip. I need to thank all of you who've put up with constant posts and questions leading up to my 2011 first epic trip. This will be a 7-9 day trip. I initially planned it solo but a friend from work wanted to come along and I may also have another old time friend coming along also. If that happens it will be an adventure trip for my 30th birthday. An 03 viffer, an 06 Ninja 250 and an 82 Suzuki GS 850. We haven't planned an exact week yet but it will either be the week of June 12-18 or June 19-25. I'm posting a semi planned route, we don't intend to hold to this but I wanted to use it for planning.
We have a place to stay outside of NYC and in Virginia Beach and other than that we're tenting it. This is a lot of mileage for a week long trip so we won't have much time to stop and smell the roses but I'd love to meet up with fellow VFRD members along the way and anyone is welcome to join in for any length of time. There is still some tweaking to do but here is my map along with a link to it in case the posting doesn't work.
Just my $0.02 but that looks like a lot of slab. There isn't anything to see (or curves for that matter) on the interstate. Last year I took a 3 week, just short of 8k miles last year with less than 25 miles of slab. I would suggest shortening your route and staying off the slab. It isn't the distance traveled but the adventure

The only real slab of any distance is through Indiana and Illinois. There are short sections through the major cities where there isn't much of a better option. We have two main destinations of NYC and Virginia Beach and the slab is only in a few spots to make up some time or to go through some of the cities. I'd personally rather see the cities than go around them. And on the East Coast it's sometimes harder to go around them...
403 and 401 is all slab. S. Ontario isn't renowned for twisties, but there are some nice rides.
Keep us informed - I might be able to join you for a day.

Thanks for the info. I would LOVE it if you could meet up with us and cruise for a part of the trip. If you have any suggestions for other non-slab routes through that area I would love any suggestions. I think if you click on the link for the map that anyone can edit it. I will likely post a final trip plan and itinerary closer to the dates in June.
We've arrived at a planned departure day, June 17th and we'll be heading clockwise. Each color on the map represents a tenative plan for a days ride. This trip has a lot of flexibility so the days rides are guesstimates. The last chunk or red is more than one day but I was tired of color coding... If anyone is interested in meeting up, riding part, guiding us through a better route, offering a place to crash or a yard to place our tents, etc. we're all for it! PM me and I'll give you my phone number and we can exchange info to try to meetup. I would love to meet some of you guys...

There's quite a bit through Michigan, too. All of that UP stuff is technically two-lane, but it is what I would consider to be slab. Very boring, not much worth seeing. Also, 75 through the thumb is pretty bad. Not sure about the NorthEastern UP, but I've never heard good things about it.
