What a difference a year makes, last year I thought I would have to get rid of my VF1000R and now another VF graces the garage! My wife took a MSF course, got her licence and wanted to ride so... $600 and it hasn't run in three years. Battery is shot, carbs gotta be solid varish and the tires are dry rotted. So now the questions - Tires? 16" front and 18" rear, better to convert to a 17" on both?

Cool! I`ve heard 17's work well.

...hmmm...USD forks.....?

Late 80's 600 or 1000 hurricane wheels should work ok and not be too wide (thinking maybe swingarm width restrictions, etc) .

You could run a 110/70-17 front and 130/80-17 rear. (or a 140 on the 1000 wheel?)

BUT, maybe F4 wheels might work, along with a fork swap?

Jamie would know for sure, probably Seb too.

Maybe 1000 Hurricane wheels too?

Should be fun. The F1 wheels look good, closer to the stock 3 spoker. F2 wheels aren't shabby by any means either. Great beginners bike.
The 500 started life as the VF400F. Honda should have made a 400cc VFR for new/smaller riders instead of the CBR250 that's out now. Once you're comfortable on the 250, where do you go from there in Honda's lineup if you don't want a "big" bike or a 600RR? A light middle weight with a V4 is perfect.

I'd be a nervous wreck riding with my wife. I'd be concentrating on her the whole time and not watching where I was going. But I'm a wuss like that. Have fun. :fing02:

I am nervous, but she is actually doing very well. You might notice the 1980 CB400 in the background, that was her first and it was much bigger than the VF! The interceptor has a shorter seat height and feels much lighter. Now back to the mods.... :fing02:

I'm working on one for a guy at work that has been sitting as well. I plan to put these tires on it. They should have plenty of stick without having to dump a lot of money and time into a 17" conversion.

Congrats on the find, always good to see someone bringing one of these back to life. I fitted the stock wheels on my '85 with a 100/90/16 front and a 130/80/18 rear, Duro HF918s. While I would not consider myself an overly aggressive rider, they do pretty darn good for me on the numerous twisties in my neck of the woods. BTW, I have a set of '85 carbs for parts if you should need any. Also have a set of Cobra F1Rs that are pretty nice. Keep us posted on the progress.
