Tomorrow (8th) is my 11th wedding anniversary and I just bought the wife's present. A 1988 Honda Hurricane!
She has always wanted to learn how to ride so I thought this would be a perfect bike for her. I got it for $250 and it runs great. I know the owner and I helped him to get this bike 3 years ago so he could learn and he took awesome care of it. He has now bought a 6gen VFR so I bought the Hurc for the wife.

Only pics I could find on google showed a bike with full fairing. Do you have a plan B in case she drops it and scratch them all up? Are they hard to find? Frame sliders? Just saying...

You can still get parts off e-bay, just have to watch it regularly. The bike has some rash on it but James did sand and fix a lot of it, like I said he took awesome care of it.

It is a big bike for sure but what i like is that they sit low so she can plant her feet on the ground with no problems. And being a non fuel injected bike the power comes on some what slower. She loves it , I love it, and at the price how could I not. It will staying in the family for many years to come.

Having taught motorcycle courses for nearly 15 yrs., I never thought "too much power" was a big deal for a mature newb with decent clutch control. Much more likely to fall over at low speed by turning and braking at the same time, or by turning/braking on a sandy/gravel surface ~ again, at low speed.
Biggest concern is that the rider feels comfortable with the size and weight of the bike, takes some training to force them to practice the essentials, and rides with someone who will respect and have patience with their newbness.
