ignition timing advance wheel for 6th generation?

2004 VFR VTEC. I believe I read in a forum that there is an aftermarket "wheel" that can be installed to move whatever triggers the ignition pickup ahead 5 degrees. I have searched these forums with no luck. As my bike is improving so much (Power Commander PCV, Leo Vince, taller gearing, Michelin Pilot Road 2), my guess is that ignition timing advance would make a huge difference. From what I know about current engine management designs, ignition is retarded to reduce peak combustion temperatures- lowering peak combustion temperature lowers NOx emissions. Unfortunately, high peak combustion temperatures (at design levels that existed in pre-smog motors) also raise efficiency and horsepower. I guess a modern engine could have decent timing and rely on the catalytic converter to remove excess NOx- and therefore not benefit from timing change- could even be harmful.

Anyway, anyone heard a modification trigger wheel that is available for 6th generation? Maybe I saw it in another forum. Maybe I'm sinking into dementia. Input much appreciated- I'm really interested in finding out possibility of this mod. Thanks, Kip...................

FactoryPro sells them, but I don't see a listing for the VFR.

They have them for CBR's, and if the Honda part number is identical, I'd say they would work for the VFR as well (by accident), but I doubt they are identical.

All I can tell you is that the ignition timing rotor for the VFR800 has not changed - at all - since 1998. Same part code for 13 years (30291-MBG-770).

So, if you find one for a '98, it will work on anything.

Ran the P/N through RonAyers.com "where does this fit" finder, and it came up being VFR800, all years, as Kaldek has said.

Part is not common to other Honda models, so the CBR item will not work, AFAIK.

With respect to the RC36, Marc Salvisberg actually talked me out of buying one of his advancers many years ago. He said that those engines just didn't respond as well to timing changes as did inline-fours. I believe it was a kind of custom job using your own core, which, of course, suggests that you could possibly make your own if you really wanted one (and thought you might have a better idea about engine tuning than Factory Pro!).

Ciao,

Replay to all:

Thanks for input- apparently I saw documents for CBR and forgot/didn't notice. I'll contact Factory Pro to get more info, but sounds like timing will be staying the same.

Thanks again, Kip...............
