Bafflectomy and Smooth PowerBand

So I've been doing research into a bafflectomy (exhaust gut) on my VFR800 2007.  I like the stock look and don't want an aftermarket can.  I would like a lower sound and achieved this previously by doing a similar mod on my Honda 919.  However, the negative effect was that my idle and power band became quite rough in comparison to stock.

My question is:

Does an exhaust gut, or partial exhaust gut (seen several different ways) effect the super-smooth power delivery of the VTEC that I love?  Experiences, thoughts, suggestions?

I bought the same bike 2 years ago and gutted the exhaust fully soon after getting it.

My powerband wasn't all that smooth to begin with, but gutting didn't affect it.

As for the idle, it is exactly the same pre/post-gut, though the idle will be wildly different than the 919 regardless, on account of the V-4 burble.

I doubt our RWBs will ever be uber-collectible, but it's probably a good idea to try and pick up a spare exhaust for playing with.  The full gut is loud and it's nice to have an escape route in case you get tired of it.
