Hi all, when the 1200 first came out there were pix of it with an official Zumo (550) cradle and words to the effects that controls would be available from the bars, removing the need to take your hand off the bar to control the Zumo.
So my questions are "Is this true, and if so has anyone got one?"
The Honda branded zumo with handlebar controls has been available for a few years now. Here it was part of the touring package for the sixth gen (Zumo 550, hardcases and heated grips).
For the VFR1200 there is a kit that contains a Zumo 550 and handlebar controls: 08A40-MGE-800 for the manual model and 08A40-MGE-800A for the DCT

It is true if you reside in Europe or the Pacific Rim nations, It is basically a Zumo 550 with hand controls on the left grip and boots up with a Honda Logo...

What a deal, and illegal to operate while riding here anyway. I know that most of the problem with distracted drivers is folks texting but the gps is at least part of the problem. I know, I used to enter text on my handheld gps while driving the truck and camper through a strange city. In retrospect, I got lucky nothing happened and now I really can't recommend it.

I am not sure you can use the controls with a regular Zumo, possibly needs a different firmware. The controls are wired to the Zumo 550, does the Zumo have a socket for a remote control?
On the Honda website it shows the VFR with a zumo 660:
http://www.honda.co....ersm/index.html and when you scroll down a bit you'll notice there is a part that is different between the regular and DCT version, that might be the part number for the controls.
No there isn't a socket for a remote on the 550, I dont mind hacking the firmware to make it work if thats whats required.
I have a call into Garmin about it, just waiting for a reply...
