Oil level question

Sorry for the seemingly dumb questions but I just want to check in with you guys as I get to know my bike about some things.
Just replaced oil and filter - my question is with the bike level and cold the oil window is completely full.  Oil is past to top mark and fills the window.  I know that means I put to much oil in, but the issue is when I start the bike and run it the oil level drops to below the minimum mark and barely covers the bottom of the window.  Is this normal?  And if so do I need to remove some oil or leave it as it?
Not that I think it matters but I installed a K&N filter and 10W40 Honda semi synthetic.

The level should be checked warm after the motor has been shut down 5 min. It should not go over the top mark while the bike is straight up.

Too full, can cause blown seals, and/or not letting the splash effect do it's job, it should stay between the H/L lines.

It's more important to have the bike level, since the widow is on the side of the motor, as opposed to a dip stick that measures closer to the centre of the sump(in some cases).

I'm assuming you checked the oil level after 1) draining the oil and changing the oil filter, 2) pouring a measured amount of fresh motor oil back in the engine, then 3) starting the engine and allowing it to run briefly. Note: make sure the oil pressure light goes out within a few seconds when you first start the engine. If not, shut off the engine immediately! Depending on the oil filter mount's orientation, I generally add some fresh motor oil to the oil filter before installing the same. Ideally if the mount allows the filter to hang down, by pre-filling the filter with oil you can minimize how long it may take for the oil pressure light to go out when you first start the engine.

After allowing the engine to run long enough for the oil pressure to build and stabilize, shut it off and wait several minutes for the motor oil to drain back into the sump before checking the level via the sight window with the motorcycle in an upright position.

If you haven't followed these steps, you should do so before checking or adjusting the oil level. If the level reads above the full mark in the sight window (again, w/the motorcycle in an upright position) you should vacuum or drain off the excess.

Running your engine with too much motor oil can cause the oil to become foamy (saturated w/air bubbles), and lead to other issues such as excessive oil pressure or power loss caused when rotating parts splash in the excess oil.

Pressurized motor oil that's foamy won't provide proper protection for your engine.

You do have it on the center stand correct?

I think oil will drain back down from the oil cooler so it may be high when cold.   Start the engine for awhile and turn it off.  Recheck the oil height after a few minutes.  

Yes the oil will go below the window when the engine is running.

Got it thanks guys - I removed enough oil to keep it on the full level mark after shutting her down.  The thing that I was wondering about was if it was normal for the oil level to drop really ow when running and now that I now that's fine it's all good -

oh yeah, it drops way down when running, its all up in the heads and splashed all over the inside of the motor. sounds like you got it sorted out though
