rant: low beam bulb holder is crooked by design

So I got the morimoto mini projector set. baked my headlamp in the oven, popped the lens shield, bolted on the new projector with the supplied centering ring, and so on and on until I finally put everything back together. Fired it up to do some final adjustment on headlight aiming.

THEN IT HIT ME!!! The razor sharp cutoff line is NOT horizontal. It is crooked by around 5 degree. Tried everything to correct it, nothing worked. Took the headlamp back out and re-examined the bulb holder. BAM! The bulb holdr is crooked by 5 degree, on both side. Given how they are both off horizontal in the same direction by the same amount of rotation, I suppose this must be a factory design.

Why does Honda have to mess with standard H4 bulb holders?

Rant over. Tomorrow I'm going to realign the light after filing off the location tab on the centering ring.

Because then it would the hi beam!  Angled down 5 degrees so that they spread low and wide.

I think the OP is meaning that the horizontal beam cutoff is not level, but angled.

What year VFR are we talking about here? Pics?

Edit: judging by your gallery pics, it seems you have a Veefalo?

The In Europe the low beam pattern is not horizontal. It is from the centre to the left, but from the centre to the right it has a 15 degrees upward slope (reverse for British vehicles).

Also the H4 bulbs used in a US vtec are single filament where regular H4 is dual filament. Euro VTECs do not have H4 bulbs but H7 for both low and high beam.

It could be normal as I remember that my car's low beam cut off are also angled on both sides. high on the right low to the left for both headlights. I think that's to avoid blinding the oncoming traffic.

From what I can tell, both bulbs holders were turned clock-wise by a small amount relative to horizon. Because Morimoto projectors come with centering rings that assumes the bulbs are horizontal, the end result is that when installed on 6th gen VFR, the cut off edge is turned clockwise. This means high on the left side, low on the right side, which is unacceptable in right hand drive countries.

Today I popped the lens cover again, filed off the location tab on the centering rings, and visually realigned the projectors as best as I can. Since one corner of the projector happens to touch the edge of the reflector housing, I also cut a notch on the reflector edge to keep the projectors from turning in the future. The end result is not perfect, as one of the projectors didn't end up perfectly horizontal. But at least it is tilting counter-clockwise so on-coming traffic won't get blinded.

Another rant: I hate those little rubber-and-steel nuts. Seems like everytime I remove a bolt, the rubber end of the nut will jump out of the hole. The nuts will then either (1) fall into some little crevices, or (2) fall on the ground and bounce realllllly far away. In the end I lost one of these nuts from the windshield. It must have fallen into the space between the frame and the headlight assembly. But I'm too tired to take the whole thing apart yet again to look for it.

Well nuts is what they are called. Buy a couple dozen replacements off eBay and keep in stock.

I noticed this when I bought some HID lo beam globes.(Single beam H4s)
The HIDs were obviously designed for the US market as the globes themselves had a built in slope which caused the beam to be cast to the right, which is unacceptable in OZ as it would blind oncoming traffic.
I cut off the locating tabs and rotated them manually till they were rotated slightly in the opposite direction to cast the light to the left.
that was over 12 months ago and they havent moved.
I cant say that I noticed any built in angle to the globe housing though.
Incidently the OZ model uses a standard H4 globe for lo beam but only the lo beam filament is used, and I thought the Euro model was the same.
The high beam is H7, and lo beam is on all the time.
