Switched from K&N to PiperCross.

Hi all, I went to clean my K&N air filter, and found a truck load of dirt in my venturies. The K&N when held up to the sun, looks like swiss cheese. This is the first time I've removed it, and I used the K&N cleaning/oiling kit, and did not blow it out, but let it dry overnight. IMO, the K&N is a real POS! I'll try a foam type next.

So I did some net research, and I'm going to try a PiperCross filter. I'll post my findings next week. Here's a pic.

A few days later;

Ok, the new PiperCross filter showed up this morning. I had concerns because I'd heard on many bikes, that the PC filter will need carb/Fi-remap work. And my airbox has been hacked up pretty good. I'm happy to say that the low end on the bike was not effected in any negative way. The mid/top feels more peppy. I know for a fact that the engine gets to 11k much faster then before, but it was poring rain, and I could of had some wheel slip.

The big surprise for me was the sound! If you need to know how it will sound on your bike, just remove your filter, and this will get you close/ I'm a bit of a gear head, So I LOVE IT!

I've been told by some of my old school mechanics, that the 2000/2001 has a wider range in the Fi system. This may be the case, as I've had no issues with my opened up air box and this free flowing filter. I bought it from this guy, and it was drop shipped from the only US dealer. Bought it wednesday morning and got it this morning.

I got PipeCross in my Ducati, it was the only aftermarket option for replacing stock filters *in stock locations* No complaints, no notable improvements either.

I don't want to start a pissing contest by IMHO Valention Rossi could not tell a difference form K&N to another performance filter.
I have 1/4 million miles at least on few K&N filters, my cars mostly, never had an issue with dirt getting by once filter is properly installed and oiled.

I was surprise by the dirt. I noticed a little dirt on my PickUp, but I'd let it go about a year before cleaning. I been using K&N for at least 20 years. But with the VFR, I'd like to keep the intakes as clean as possible. I've read a bunch of post about PipperCross, and most all of them are positive, and lots of them mention how clean there carb throats look.

So I thought better safe then sorry, and bought one.
