While the Franklin Motel has served us well for the last 4 years and I like the whole courtyard set-up, I just am not confident that the situation won't change in some bad way with the owners possible sale of the motel. I just can't leave 70-80 members in the lurch that way.

I've looked into a new venue for us and it's the Microtel in Franklin. It's newly remodled, has 60 rooms and is closer to bars and food for our event. I'm thinking it will be the way to go, even it doesn't have the same courtyard set-up that I think worked so well for us that the Franklin Motel had. It should have a large meeting room that we can use like we did at the original Microtel we used in Robbinsville.

I spoke with a very nice woman there at the Franklin Microtel and she offered this to our group. They have the same dates available now!

Good Afternoon, Kevin!  We will be happy to do a $59.00 rate for our rooms.  Just let me know as soon as you can if you would like to reserve and how many.  Our rates in May run $69.95 to $89.95.  Anyone staying at Microtel will have a newly renovated room, complimentary breakfast, free local and long distance within the United States, USA today paper at breakfast, and free high speed wireless. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you in the future.  Have a wonderful day :-)

I'm not familure with it's location, but it should be better suited for our needs.

Feedback welcome! Anyone know of a reason not to make this change please PM me asap!

Pictures of the place maybe?

No road courses in place of a parking lot.
No high sulfur content in the water.
A sign with enough letters for even the beginner scrabble player.
Space for all the vehicles and trailers and people of questionable reputation.

Anything else we need?
#3
Do you have an address or website or something? I tried looking it up and didn't come up with anything that might have been the place you described.

And by described, I meant the name of the place. Not a place with rooms and internet and breakfast.

Why are you getting negitive vibs about the old place.......... Why would it be any different going to a new place we don't know than going to a old place we know with new owners? Seems like both have unknowns.
#5
I agree Kevin.  I'd hate to wait too long only to discover the Franklin may not be available.  The Microtel is only a mile or so away from the Franklin.

81 Allman Dr, Franklin, NC(828) 349-9000
Is the info I got on google. I did a map and it looks like a boxed in parking (which is good/safer). but it wouldn't zoom-in clear enough to count parking spots.
Anyway google this and and see what you get.
I'd copy/past but don't know how. >>>>>YET>>>>>>>>>>
It's about a mile South of the OLD place about 4 places down(South) from the intersection of 64 & 441 ,
In walking distance there are Places to eat : BoJangles(Breakfast and chicken) / DairyQueen(Hambergers) / PizzaHut(pizza) / HuddleHouse / Shoneys / Arbys / Fat-Z .

I can bring a tent and set it up nearby.  Its good to have a plan B.

The idea of newly renovated "clean" rooms is nice.  Looks like plenty of parking and having food close by is a plus.  I'd say go for it.

Is their marquee at ground level?

I walked though on Googles street camera and didn't see a  marquee

Sounds like a good plan to me Kevin, although I do normaly fear change. :fing02:

Parking lot looks big enough to make a road course in it. :tour:

Sounds like a bit of an upgrade but I certainly will miss having one of these in my room......

On the other hand having wireless internet means we don't have to look at porn on dial up in the office with the guy behind the counter.

Looks good to me.  I agree that things may not be as good with the new owners (last year was outstanding!), so if we're gonna move we shouldn't wait too long.

Any chance of BBQ in the meeting room?

New rooms, low prices, plenty of parking, wifi, free calls...  What's not to like?
I like everything about it.  Lets book it and be done.

Passing on our old spot is a good risk management decision, boss :fing02:
Now I know that we'r in capable hands.  Wasn't so sure before :laughing6-hehe:

Two owners, One wants to sell the other wants to keep and maybe renovate. One sale has already fallen through. If it sold the new owner has no obligation to honor our current agreement on prices or to even hold rooms for us!  What if it's sold and shut down for revamp???
What if new owners have a Moped group they promised the motel to on the same weekend.

I don't know who will own, run or if it will even be open at the time of Tmac! The Slightest possibility that something can screw up our event at the last minute when there would be No time or Rooms to cover us just isn't worth the potential issue.
I like the Franklin, but I will not take the chance of having the event and travel plans of 80 members be screwed up.
We will move this years event to the Microtel (unless there's some drastic issue) and if we don't like the change we can move back to the Franklin next year if it's still there!

PS last years TexasMac was the Best one yet and it's hard to think about moving, but we are!

Sounds good to me BR......... I was just being the devils advacate :lobby:

From what I can see on google it has way more for us than the old one, the only negitive are no outside chairs for gathering in the parking lot.
But the nice thing is the near-by eateries.
#19
Are the double bed rooms $59 ?????
#20
The Microtel sounds better to me.  I'm not going to publicly bash the Franklin, but I stayed there on a personal trip in the fall and well... that will be my last stay.  It wasn't a 'people' problem....
#21
Lets fill up ALL 61 rooms!

PS: I will soon be opening up the application process for room mate.  Punctuation counts.
#22
I'm with Timmy, let do it! Hopefully we have the same BBQ! That is what I'm really looking forward to!
#23
I plan to have the same place provide a BBQ dinner again for us as it was Great.  I guess we'll have to have everyone who trailers in to bring a bunch of folding chairs.
I'll check with the Microtel to see if they have any chairs available and hopefully they'll have a large Meeting room for use to us for Safety Meetings!

I should have it all set-up by next week including the Official Thread, but it's not locked in just yet.

Depending on vehicle/trailer situation, I could probably bring a good dozen or two folding chairs.
#27
BaileyRock,
Sounds like a good plan to switch now. Too many unknowns. Let's go for it.
#28
BR,

If the woman you spoke with at the Microtel could provide a special rate/promotion code we could use when making reservations online to show we're part of the group and eligible for the discounted rate of $59, please let us know.

Thanks!

I can bring chairs too!  I have several.  No one gets to sit in my pink one though!

Smarty pants.  My step-dad bought me a bring pink CHAIR after my track day last year.  I had a black chair and a really large guy sat in it and broke it!  Didn't tell me either.  Grr.
#32
I hate it when really large guys sit on and break stuff as well. . . . . . . . . . that still doesn't sound right does it.

As a traveller by profession (sales) I am very happy that we're upgrading to the Microtel.  The Franklin had a certain "mystique" or is that musk - about it - but it needs updating via sticks of dynamite....

Greg and I will be in town early that week as per usual routine  - and then we'll switch over to the Motel for Thursday -Sunday am.

COME ON SPRING!!!!

Thanks!

We're all set with the Microtel, just ask for the VFRD group rate($59.00 any room) which they will honor for the entire week and a day or two extra if desired!
I'll post up the Toll Free # and more info soon, hopefully I've have the main thread and Eventbrite registration set-up this weekend.
I'm not sure about any On-line codes, but will ask them about it this weekend.
I'm sure we will make the best of it.
Thanks

Looking forward to this, guys. As it happens I have a bit of work to get the bike ready, its down for winter maintenance, but hopefully THIS year that won't stop me from coming. Last year I was just getting it together from a pile of parts and happened to have it ready to go the Monday afterwards.. Hoping to show up on fresh suspension and rubber this time, hell, I might even put my pipe on.
