Front end swap(2005-06 cbr600rr front on 3rd & 4th gen vfr750)

Thinnking about using cbr600rr front end on my 92 & 94 vfr750. I know that front end will work but I would like to use my vfr front wheel. The axle and bearing size are different and there seems to be a little problem with the brake rotors not being wide enough and big enough in circumphance. Has any one done this swap or does anyone have any helpful info to help me on this project? Thanks in advance.

I would rather take advantage of the lighter wheel and MUCH better brakes buy using the cbr wheel. I know it will add cost but that would be teh way to go IMO.

I've done the 07 & up 600RR front end on a 4th gen, the CBR wheel is MUCH lighter.  I'm not a big fan of 3 spokeds either, but function over form for me every time, not to mention it's all bolt on.

Thanks guys. I kinda figured that using the cbr wheel would be the easiest way to go. I' m not a fan of the thre spoke either. May have to end up going that route if i can't come up with a way to make the vfr wheel work. I've gotten the dimensions to both wheel bearings (vfr-20x42x12 and cbr-22x47x14). So in order to get the cbr axle to work with the vfr wheel I'll need bearings that are 22x42x12, found a company in Canada that has them. Going to have to get a distance collar cut to fit the cbr axle also. The cbr rotors are 12'', so I'll be looking to find a 12'' rotor that has the same bolt pattern as the vfr wheel (for the '92 & '94). I have not had a chance to measure the distance from rotor to rotor, but it looks like the cbr rotors are a tad bite wider than the vfr rotors. which means i may have to shim the vfr wheel rotors and fab some custom wheel spacers. If anyone can help with any of this it would be greatly appreciated.

98/99 CBR900RR rotors are the same diameter(310mm), but they won't bolt directly to a 750 wheel.  They will however bolt to a 5th gen wheel, but the offset might not be correct for the 600RR caliper spacing.

This website is a godsend for matching up wheels and brake rotors, can't believe it exists actually!  Maybe you find something that will work here!

The early ('97-'98) CBR1100XX rotors are Ø310mm (same as CBR600RR) and have the same bolt pattern as the '94-'97 VFR. They have 5mm more offset than the stock VFR rotors so they would be 10mm farther apart than the stock rotors.

According to my measurement's are that the '90-'97 VFR rotors are 135mm apart (outer surface to outer surface) and '04 CBR600RR (same front wheel and rotors as the '05-'06 600RR) are 142mm apart. So that would make the CBR1100XX rotors 3mm (or 1,5mm per side) too wide apart but maybe one could make it work. Also you'd need to check the measurements yourself. That's the closest setup I know.  As for the '92 VFR, it has fixed rotors in stock form and I don't think there are any rotors that would fit.

You could have the surface of the wheel milled where the rotors mount to take away some of the offset.  Common modification when mounting an F4 17" wheel and 310mm 900rr wheels to a 98/99 900rr.

Thanks guys, the input that y'all provided help solve my problem. I've order a '96 rim for my '92 and have contacted the machine shop about milling the rotor mounting point. Now I can move on to spacers for the front wheel. Next up mounting RC51 tail with underseat exhaust.

When you say" bolt on" is it really that simple?
Just picked up a 96 that may or may not have a bent front fork

If you swap the whole frontend (triple tree, forks,brake calipers and lines,handle bars,upper clamp,and rim and axle) its that simple. Can get whole frontend on ebay $400-$700.

This is an update that I was suppose to have done months ago. Here it is. I once again had problems with the wheel bearings(wrong size). But I came up with a way to fix the problem and still use my stock vfr(1995) front rim. I just had the long part of the shaft of a 05-06 cbr 600rr milled down to the size of a stock vfr 750 front shaft ,so the stock bearings will fit. Then I had to have a bushing made (just for the right side fork, the one with the small hole) to take up the slack when the axle is slid into the fork. I used the front brake rotors from a 97-98 cbr1100 as suggested above. I will post pictures soon.
