Sharing this because it took all day to do, and because so far it's been a good day, so I'm in a mood to share the joy.
So I picked up this 848 rear wheel a long time ago for maybe $100. From the look of it, either the owner never tightened down the wheel nut, or the drive pins broke and tore a gash into the wheel where the pins go. First thing I do is check to see if it's straight. Yep. Check and it still fits on a spindle too. Looking good. So I take it down to the welder we use for the shop and ask him to fill in the sections that were cut away. I was thinking he would just use a little bit to fill it in. Don't have a before pic to share, but this is what I got back...

He just went to town and slabbed on the weld. Not really a huge deal until I try to figure out how I'm going to make sure I'm centered on the holes. Wasn't planning on weld being over the holes. So I spent all day today (between actual work) and milled the face down. Then spun a drill backwards with the wheel loose in the clamps to try and get the hole centered on the tool. Drill a little, recheck alignment, drill some more, rinse, repeat. Until finally, just came down to one last check and milling the counterbore. Spot on with all the holes, and 3/4 of the counterbores. It fits super snug on the spindle too, so it's even right!
