You're gonna have trouble finding quality sport tires for an 18" rim.
The hot mod for an rc30 is to swap on a 17" rim and keep the 18 for a coffee table/conversation piece. That way, it "could" be returned to standard if desired.
seansparkleI'm putting in a CBR 929 rear shock and from what I've found out on this forum I need to add a 39mm spacer to match the existing setup.
Will the extra 1/2 inch (or 12mm) ride height affect the handling, should I shorten the spacer to 27mm to take account of this?
It will increase (steepen) fork rake, which is a good thing - you'll get the same sort of improvement as dropping the triples down the forks by 10mm or so. The bike won't be quite as neutral (slow steering) but will turn in more readily and generally feel lighter and more responsive.
I'm with Rob, though - a 17" tyre will give you a far wider range of tyre choices.
To fit the 18" rim I assume you are looking at doing a Triumph hub conversion?

The Dunlop D207 for the V-Rod is a decent tire, not up to the best of today, but decent.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, I have an NC30 swingarm, from what I have read the nc30 spindle will fit directly into the 4th gen swingarm so shouldn't be a problem.
I'm aware of the problems getting tyres to fit, but love the look of the original wheel, plus I;m doing an RC30 replica so trying to get as near as possible to the original look.

Ughhhhh....Dunlop D207s??! They were like the worst tires I ever had on a bike! The handling on those get really spooky when they wear down a bit, especially as the fronts cup severely. I'd say, stay away from D207s if you can!

+1. Dunflop 207's are terrible. Don't last that long, awful cupping, take forever to warm up. The only time I lost control of my old R6 was on the 207's and I was only doing 10 mph making a left turn at a light when it turned green. Definitely go with another tire if you have a choice.

The eccentric will slide into the swingarm, however it is narrower by about 10mm if I remember correctly. I know VFROEM on here has done it, but I'm not sure how he made up the difference.
An RC30 eccentric is supposed to be a direct fit, you only need to modify the caliper mount/stay from what I've seen.

Well, not many other options in a 180/55 -18 tire, mostly V-Rod intended non-sport tires. I used the 207's for my Class School at Barber, no real issues at all, I was not racing, but I was dragging, they did great. Most 170/60 - 18 tires are sport touring tires at best. Very limited choice of tires for an 18" wheel.

I've yet to try it, but will be starting a new thread with lots of photos when I have everything ready to go.
Ideally an RC30 swingarm would be the best option but as you can imagine they're as rare as rocking horse, er, teeth!
