I love Sweden!

So fitted the used ohlins on the back of my 99 last night. While it was all apart I added a 4.5 mm shim set to the shock mount. Had to make a bracket for the preload adjuster and that wasnt in the box when the shock arrived. stuffed the resevoir under the seat so I could get to it for tuning and bolted it all back together.

1st observation. The center stand is not long enough anymore. Gonna have to figure something out cause thats how I lube and adjust my chain.

2nd observation. I think its closer to 4:1 than 3:1 with the rear end cause 4.5mm got me a ton of rear ride height.

3rd observation. This thing turns in WAY WAY easier now. Like I kept messing up my corner entries cause it would get over so quickly

4th observation. Standard 16.4 kg spring is about perfect for me with 1.5 turns on the hydraulic adjuster but ohlins wants more compression damping and less rebound damping than i like.

5th observation. At my weight, the fork isnt half bad once it has some weight on it and the back end is tracking.

So far, so good. about an hour and a half of riding tuning and tweaking today (its a hard life I know) and so far I'm pretty happy, might try dropping the back end down a little tiny bit, or I might just make the stand longer.

I rode a 98 with an Ohlins for 70k miles and my center stand worked fine!  I did not shim mine at all though, curious if you set up the suspension using sag measurements for the preload of if you just shimmed it and called it good?  I figured out how to set up my old 98 solo with a few simple tools.

I set the sag to the same 35mm that I had been happy with on the stocker but the rear ride height was a little low. I wanted more weight on the front but clearance gets to be an issue quickly on these if you just slide to forks up. I was shooting for between 13 an 15mm more height in the rear but I think I got more like 17. although after riding it, really the only issue is that the stand cant lift the tire clear of the ground anymore, fine in a parking lot just not great for wrenching. so a little piece of plywood for servicing and im set.

Does your ohlins shock not have adjustable ride height? The lower shock eye should be extendable.

If so you can dial down the ride height while keeping your shim, to the point that you have a couple MM of clearance between your rear tire and the ground and then adjust/lube your chain.

nah, mines the older one. has comp rebound, hydraulic preload and a remote res but no adjustable ride height

raise the forks in the triples a little?   will help the turn-in even more, and when on the centerstand, will raise the tire off the ground a bit more.  That mod seems to go hand-in-hand w/ changing the shock...
