RIP Ponrod

Y2kvfr just informed me that Keith Wallace, aka Ponrod passed away due to complications from surgery.  Keith was a fixture at the annual TMAC meet and a good all around guy!  If you have any memories of him you would like to share please post up.  Keith, you will be missed this year!

I met Keith as my leader on my first trip through Deals Gap.  I was instantly taken by his gentle kindness and good humor.  I told him how glad I was that I got to know him and for that I am happy. We were friends.

Met him first day out on my first TMAC. Good man to have around.

Keith was an awesom guy, in fact he actually was the one who made the Cross for TexasMac. He never meet TexasMac or myself but volunteered to make the cross and help set it up at the location.

Keith was an instant friend and a great lead. A true gentleman.  The funeral is tomorrow in Greenville TN.

Say a prayer for his family if you are so inclined.

I met Keith at Tmax and enjoyed talking with him, my condolences go out to his family and friends.

Truly sad.  A great guy to be around, a great rider, skilled craftsman--he was one of the folks that made our yearly get together special.

As a member of VFRD he had a family larger than most could imagine. My condolences to all who knew him.

I have never met him but I can clearly see by all the posts what a great guy he was, very sad, rip x

Keith was a special guy, no doubt.  He will be missed.  Keeping his family in thoughts and prayers.  God Speed Rider.

Very sorry to hear this.

Keith(far left) his wife Dawn(far right) and daughter Samatha at the Sweetwater BBQ breakfast prior to raising the Cross he built at the crash site in April of 2004.

He always had a positive attitude no matter what.

His wife drove the truck that carried all the tools and cement we needed to get the cross set in the hill and took pictures of the process.


Can't say enough about the quality of this guy, he will be missed!

Sad to hear of his passing

I've never met Keith, but I'm very sorry to read about this news.  Being a family man myself, my heart goes out to his wife and daughter.

I never had the good fortune of meeting Keith but judging by the posts it certainly was my loss... my heart and prayers go out to him and his family

  I met Kieth at Myers Ducati shop in Asheville NC after Tmac several years ago,we talked a good bit about how tmac and what it meant to him.He loved the WNC mountains motorcycles and life in general,back then he had a Ducati monster and was enjoying it said he could it ride faster then his old VFR.
   Never got to ride with him,and that's to bad.
He left us why to soon,condolence's to his family and friends.He will be missed.

Very sorry to hear this, I too remember him as one of the good guys,easy going, and down to earth.My condolences to his family and friends.
I am sure we will honor him this year with a prayer, a toast and rememberance of why we all come together and do what we do.
This is a great extended family, I am proud to be a part of it.

What about a fairly somber (before the drinking) group photo of everyone with some of the bikes and a placard stating how Keith was remembered and missed.  It could then be developed and mailed to his family.



Like most of us, his wife tolerated his attending but never met any/most of us.   Like most spouses, she probably never fully understood the draw or his passion.  I think she would appreciate knowing that there were people on the other end of the ride who appreciated his company and truly miss him.

Actually his wife and daughter came up with him for the Cross Raising event back in 04. They were both great and seemed to enjoy it.

Maybe someone (Baileyrock?) could take this opportunity to give some narrative history of the TexasMac event and the rider it was named after as it seems this was important to Keith.  May you all remember him well...

For some members who have no idea what the TexasMac ride is here are some details, Texasmac was a member here who was from *you guessed it* Texas who met Baileyrock and some others for a ride into the Tennesse/North Carolina Smoky mountains to ride the famous Deals Gap. He passed away in a bizarre accident when his bike went off the road and ended up on top of him. He was the first member at VFRD to pass away - it was a shock to many of us, and to those who where with him they decided to honor him with an annual ride to the same spot of the accident, where there is a cross placed in his name. Baileyrock has taken it upon himself to organize this event for the last nine years and each year it gets bigger and better, always with safety in mind so that what happened to Texasmac doesn't happen to another member.
BTW the picture at the top of this thread is the actual Cross Raising for TexasMac Event of April, 2004 which is what the T-Mac anniversary is based on. Bruce Williams aka TexasMac was Lost Dec. 27th, 2003 riding with Baileyrock(Kevin) and Hot Rodder(Ray).
