Anyone Successfully Separate the Headlight Assembly?

Finally began the repairs in ernest and started with the cracked headlight assembly.  Once I got the front plastics off and separated the headlight assembly from the front cowl, I realized that the damage was much worse than I originally thought.  First of all, three off the mounting tabs are broken.  Then I realized that the plastic inside the unit is damaged and a large piece of black plastic from the bottem is wandering about.  It looks like the lense should separate from the housing, but I'm not sure how well its sealed around the edges and think I might do more damage in trying to force it open.

Anyone have any experience and care to share?   Thanks!

you are supposed to bake it in the oven for a short time. enough to soften the glue that holds it together. trying to get it open without heat is a recipe for broken plastic. not sure if others may have a more exact time and temperature to give you, as i've never done it.

On this thread (post #17) there is a link to a Motorsticker.eu you tube video which shows an HID projector lamp install and how to take the headlight assembly apart. They say to bake the headlight assembly for 6 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius...

400 degrees F in an oven...  Hmmm.  Need to research this a little before I piss wifey off by using her kitchen stuff.  :)
