tire change with staintune

Just a quick question for the Staintune Hi mount owners. Can you get the wheel out without removing the pipe or dies it still have to come off like the stock one?

I couldn't do it. I just wound up taking the pipe off.

I always thought that a high mount usually gave you the needed room to do so!

On a 4th Gen it does.

You can swing it out as opposed to taking it off, but the hanger and passenger peg mounting bolts still have to come out.

I do it all the time. I don't remove the pipe, or the hanger bolts. It is a tilt and spin move with attention paid to not chipping the paint on the inner part of the rim.

thanks, it looked possible but I dont have a way to try unless I get one. trying to narrow down my pipe choices.

Like Jam said, you can do it, but the problem is in that tilting it the brake caliper usually attacks the paint on the rim. It helps a little if you stick it on the centre stand with something under the stand to raise it a bit.
I find it's easier (if a little disappointing) to just loosen the link pipe clamp and remove the mounting bolt - much less pissing around...

It may be easier if you've raised the rear by adding a spacer on top of the shock. I think it can be done then.

So what's the advantage of the high-pipe if you still have to move it to take the wheel off?  Serious question, I had considered the high pipe but couldn't come up with a reason other than it looks cooler and you didn't need to move it to get the wheel off.  If you do still have to move it, is there a technical reason it's better or is it just for looks?

nah, it just looks cooler. the marketing guys try to make up reasons for hi and low pipes to be better but its really more driven by style for a street bike.

It is damn cool looking though

I did it just to show off the wheel better, and also removed the passenger peg brackets to further "enhance" the rear wheel area. I too had to loosen/swing the can out for rear wheel removal.

Could you put some masking tape over the caliper to cushion it from chipping the rims paint?
