Found out that Delta scrapped my connecting flight to Charlotte NC this Saturday.
Landing @JFK @1PM, my flight will now not leave till 7PM.....  6 hours to fill....

So what "must sees" "must eat" "must drink" places are there at JFK?  Or should I just switch on the iPod and hang out at the gate?

Unless you are U.S. citizen I assume you would need to clear customs if you wanted to venture outside the airport which is not worth the hassle in my opinion.  I would try to find a entry pass to one of the airline lounges if I was you.  I'm sure we have some fellow members who work for or know someone who works for the airlines who can score you a pass??

NEVER fly Delta.

They suck. I would imagine that you would do customs at JFK instead of the smaller airport, but you never know.  There is nothing outside of the airport anyway, as it is away from the city proper.  JFK has some of the longest security lines in the USA to be prepared.  I schedulesd a 10 hour stop-over in Reykjavik on my way to NL this summer, but that is a totally different set-up, as they cater to that.  At JFK you will be at the mercy of cabs and rude folks, so I would stay inside the airport if I were you. But if you are daring, check here:

Yep.  What everyone has said - 6 hours is not enough to try and get out to the city.
It will take you an hour to clear customs, then another hour or a bit more to get to the city, by which time you'll have to head back.

The city is enormous in size with millions of people heading in your direction at all times.  This causes all sorts of congestion and everything you have to do takes 2-3 times longer to accomplish as compared to a smaller European city.

Let me know what time you arrive to JFK.  I have a family function on Saturday, but if you're there early enough, I'll pick you up and give you an abbreviated tour.

There's a good brewery at the end of long island. But 6 hrs wouldn't be long enough for that.

Dunno if its the norm, since you are connecting flights, but most people tend to arrive at the airport check-in 3-4 hours before the flight, just to make sure they get to it on time. You step out the airport, you may have to go through the whole check-in procedure again. Faik, if you step out the checked-in area, you may have to go through the whole check-in again. Just keep yourself busy in the lounge is your best bet.

Also if you hang around and tell who ever is on duty at your out going area, if a empty seat comes available you might get moving sooner.

Ok if we are talking about this Saturday.  There is Flight 6045 departing JFK at 3:30 pm arriving CLT at 5:56 pm...I would call delta and asked to be booked on that flight.

I hope you can find something fun to do at the airport to kill that much time--I hate it when I have a long delay such as that one. But don't sweat the small stuff. Despite these small annoyances, I wish you the trip of a lifetime!   :fing02:   Lots of good times, lots of good ... spirits. And we will be looking for pics in a separate thread soon, since some of us cannot join y'all this time around!     :pissed:     I hope to see lots of of "compromising" pics, y'know, the type that could be used to blackmail someone... especially about Timmeh and BR...  and yourself, of course!

Enjoy!   :tour:
