Replacing spark plugs on my 99 W PICS

did my plugs today and took some pics! hope they will help!
took about 30 mins. with the right tools!

take a 6'' extension to get to the plugs

used a 8mm socket to move the oil cooler! SO EZ!!!

These are what they told me to use(HONDA).

i use the NKG CR9EHIX-9, i know that there $8 per but ive never looked back from switching from the oem. the reason i use them is Because of the properties of Iridium, the spark plugs centre electrode can be made with a much smaller diameter than with platinum types (0.8mm), Gold or gold palladium and copper/nickel types. This means that spark plugs potential difference is more concentrated and hence less 'spark jump' voltage is required - this can be as much as 5,000 volts less than with standard plug types. Ignition is improved and less strain is placed on the ignition system. Benefits of improved ignition/combustion include better fuel economy, increased power/acceleration and especially better throttle response.

I've been thinking about doing my plugs to try and improve my bike's apparently lower-than-normal mileage. Thanks for the tips. Any other advice on which plugs to use? I know next to nothing about them.

The one's in the box where NGK CR9EHIX-9 so i'd go with those. Get them before you do this not all auto part stores stock them.. usually there a day away. There something like $8 a piece. good luck!

I replaced mine this weekend. Pulled out the CR9EH-9 I had put in the bike at 18k miles and put in the CR9EHIX-9. The bike now has 55k miles, so that was 37k miles on those plugs. They actually still looked really good and the gap was in spec, but decided to swap them out anyway. The 100k mile iridiums that were in my truck developed a skip at idle at 82k miles and I didn't want an issue with the bike. Since the bike rev's twice as fast as the truck on average, I figured the number of sparks produced by the plugs were about the same.

YMMV with the Iridiums. Yes, they don't wear like other plugs, but they are 2.8 times less conductive than copper core plugs. Their biggest benefit is they don't wear (very high melting point), so especially in turbo engines, they work well.

I got some Densos off Ebay a couple of years ago, way, way cheaper than any NGK plugs I could find anywhere.

They work the same, bike runs the same, etc. Don't pay more when you don't have to.

well it all depends on how long you want your spark plugs to last. I put in the OEM NKG's and they lasted a full riding season. After i switched to the Idrium nkg's i haven't had to touch them until it flooded

I noticed a big jump in mid-range when I put in the regular old copper NGK (replacing plugs that had approx 20k on them). Mogman has a point with the conductivity- and since it only takes 30 minutes to change them, why not just put in a 12$ set every other season? I try not to overthink these things.

Shame on me! Mine has 29k on it and I haven't pulled a plug yet.
