Rubber sealing flaps-forgot to take a pic

Trying for figure out how the sealing flaps go on either side of my 1990VFR. They are approx 3" x 7",and have a plastic pieces stapled on the ends. The pieces are attached to the frame , midway along the length of the tank. They have plastic push in rivets on them. I cannot figure out where they go, or what they are supposed to seal. Could I do without them?

BTW- I couldn't find them on Ron Ayers parts diagrams

look on the "air cleaner" chart for the bike on ron ayers. :fing02:
