So, I'm nearly finished restoring my '93 VFR750. I figured since I had all the bodywork off I'd clean the carbs (again) and throw in a new starter clutch since mine had been making that wonderful "crunching" sound and it had two small cracks. I've read of people just getting new springs and it works fine but thought I'd splurge on the new clutch also ($180). I ordered straight from the dealership and even got behind the counter to check the correct model and such. Ordered new springs also.
I get the clutch and springs in and everything installs fine. A little snug (especially the lil timing dowl) be everything went in. Installed fine.
Here's the issue.... no spark!!!! Obviously the sensors aren't picking up. I checked the little wires and they have been untouched. There is only one way to put it back on so installation can't be the issue. I took it back apart and noticed that the outer casing of the starter clutch has two fewer knobs than the old one. I have also read that Honda made changes to them and in some cases they won't work!!! I called the dealership (good guys) and they didn't know what to say since that is the correct part for my make/model. They won't take it back either since it's been used so I'm out $180.
So, what should I do? Transfer everything over to my old/cracked starter clutch? I know it'll work fine but for how long?
