Here's a link to the ride my friend and I did today, had my first accident as well. Was a little to close to the edge of the pavement, the front tire got pulled off the road and I hit a mile marker. No damage to the bike, just a sore forearm and some scratches on my leg. I was taking off from a stop so I was only going like 5 mph. Why I didn't just hit the brakes is beyond me, it just didn't cross my mind in the moment. Oh well, learning moment.
No damage to the bike is the key thing, sacrificing the body to save the bike is a point of pride!
I have been on the northern part of your route before, back in 2000, came from Whiskeytown, then headed north to the Redwood forest. Great riding out there, you are lucky to live in that part of the country!
I do feel blessed to be able to ride 36 any day I have off, but to be honest, after riding it so many times, it's getting boring. I am hoping to organize some more group rides out there, it makes it a whole lot more fun when there are 5-10 of you instead of 1 or 2.
