Givi Siderack Issues

Hello all,

I recently bought a PL257 side rack kit to go with my FZ257 top rack. While the top rack fits very well and I had no trouble installing it, the side racks are quite combative and difficult to install. They also point about 20 degrees away from center line, is this normal?

I have a friend that had a 2001 VFR and his side racks bent in towards the bike as well so I think that is normal. When he installed his racks, I seem to remember him mentioning that they were difficult to align. He made sure to align all the holes and loosely fit all the bolts first so that the rack was installed for all intents, and then tightened all the hardware after the racks were installed. Unfortunately my buddy lives about 600 km away now and no longer has the bike, so I'm unable to get him to send me some pictures. As a side note, if the racks pointed straight back, parallel to the center of the bike, I think this would make the bike wider at the back and thus decrease the ground clearance when cornering. By bending in towards the center line of the bike at the back I think it helps to minimize the width at the very back edge of the hard bags at the bottom. This decrease in width would allow the bike to tip farther when diving in to a corner.

Thanks for the replies guys. I mocked up my pelican cases with some straps and I don't think this setup is going to work very well with them.

I could see this setup looking better with something like the E360s, which are more rounded and the rotation wouldn't be as apparent as these. Not to mention I'm going to have the cornering clearance of a harley if I use pelicans.

Does the rear cross-bridge fit when the sides are bolted onto the Monorqack? If so it is as designed.

PS I'd slacken everything off on the basic Monorack and install that fully including the frankenbolts before adding the sides. My Monorack fitted without the "spring" shown by your first picture. I had a Wingrack rather than the side add-ons so cannot add any practical experience.

Yes it does. Everything needed to be loosened to get things close enough to fit, but it worked eventually with some tension on the arms going to the passenger footpegs. I think these racks were made with E21s in mind; and are cockeyed to allow room for the passengers feet.

I personally expected them to be parallel to each other like everything else I've seen with Givi racks installed, but that is not the case for this rack.

these photos prolly dont help, because I use a wingriack, but just in case, here is a rack that has been solid for 35,000 miles.
