I was getting ready to fix my stator conector when I noticed another wire needs some cleaning up as well. I've checked the system diagram for the charging system and I believe it's the wire for the ignition switch. It starts out as black, but then goes to red at a connection. The red end leads directly to the postive terminal on the battery. I plan on adding a better connector here espically since it's not insulated very well as is.
Sounds like an attempt by prevous owner to reroute the R/R feedback wire directly to the battery to get a more accurate response from the R/R to the battery's needs... but, unless you follow that wire to wherever it goes you won't really know.

I was thinking along the same lines. It might be a monitoring wire, but I thought that was only on some of the GSXR and R1 R/r's. Is your rectifier the OEM unit?
I am concluding that my rectifier is not the OEM, the 3 yellow wires coming from the stator are smaller than the 3 yellow wires going to the rectifier. I've provided a few photos of the rectifier. There are numbers on the side that read SH689FA; 3.0092. I also noticed that the yellow wires coming from the rectifier appear to have a descent amount of oxidation on them from where the original conncetor was, i'm concluding this occured because the old connector was fried and had melted the wire insulation allowing moisture and etc in. See photo.
Currently I've cut the old connector out and installed posi-lock connectors in its place. I plan on testing everything this evening if I have time. Before I do should I remove the wire with oxidation on them far enough back to wear there is clean wire? Also any thoughts on my use of the posi-lock connectors (they are not the water tite ones)?
Have not used the Posi-locks on this high current application. Have used their Posi-taps and Posi-locks on low current connections with success. If you stick with those, please let us know how it works long term. When I temporarily fixed my R/R to Stator connection issue prior to replacing them, I just cut out the connector and soldered the wires together.

I'll be sure to let you know, the spec sheet on them specifies a max voltage of 600V. Should be adequate.
Current is measured in Amperes. On a 12V application current load determines wire gauge, etc.
