Hi Guys (& Gals),

Im looking to get a bike for summer to tide me over until the new BMW R1200RT comes out next year (with partial water cooling) and want to get an interim cheap bike to last this summer and possibly next and as a bonus get something to fiddle with in the garage.

I've found what looks like a really nice bike here which is just down the road and looks in good nick.

Anything particular I should be looking for ? Cant see evidence of valve adjustments being checked, but thats on the list to ask, anything else I should consider ?

Also apart from checking the valves, are they fairly easy to work on for oil changes etc ?

Many thanks all, I will browse through the forums, but would appreciate any useful advice.

RBW.

From my personal experience, the 2000 and 2001 VFRs are virtually bullet proof.

My 2000 has never EVER had a problem.

It starts every time, it has never left me stranded, nothing has ever broken.

I have not been able to say that about any other bike I have owned.

This is probably the main factor which keeps the Y2K VFR in my garage.

It has always been so loyal to me that I will not ever part with it.

Welcome and jump on it. Looks like a hell of a buy.

Check the electrical connections to the regulator rectifier...if they are dark brown or burnt they and the reg rec may need replacing (buy a spare at least)...plenty of threads on that topic.
