Does anybody here know for sure what the correct part number is for the 00-01 VFR? Ron Ayers shows 2 different part numbers... 35121-KW3-771 & 35122-KW3-771, but when I look them up on fleabay, neither looks like the correct key.

Just looking for a blank key myself as my viffer only came with one so I am interested to know the answer.
Do you happen to know your key code? (the last 3 digits of what is stamped on the lock cylinders,).
If your code is Axx or Bxx (where xx are two numbers,) the original Honda key blank is part # 35121-KW3-771. (type 1)
If the code is Cxx or Dxx, the Honda blank is #35122-KW3-771 (type 2)
Order the VFR1200 key blank from Mason City Honda, cheaper than the blank from eBay and better quality to boot.
MiniCarver ordered an ebay blank last month, cheap and light and ordered one with a seat lock for a 1200 last week and it slips right into the 00-01 ignition...looks much better and has a nice weight to it.
Cost from Mason City with our VFRD discount was around $6.
Cost for original 00-01 key blank is $6.34 from mason city before our VFRD discount. part # 35121-KW3-771
cost for 2010 vfr1200 key blank that slides into 00-01 ignition is $11.61 before discount, with the VFRD discount i paid $9.18. Part #35121-MEH-671
I paid 7 bucks for a cheap chinese key blank off of ebay but i'd go straight through masoncity the first time if i could redo it. The ebay key works but it just doesn't feel quality.

you are correct, with HISS you need the specific key chipped to your VIN/ECM as I understand it.
How do you know if the bike has HISS? My new-to-me 2001 came with one key and I would like to have a spare(s).

Hi, I think the USA bikes don't have HISS,I could be wrong though as I am new to the VFR,HISS is a built in Honda immobiliser,
It says HISS just above the main igniton keyhole.I have to get a special key and take it to a Honda dealer to get it matched to the bikes ECU, wish it was just as simple as getting a key cut,
this technology is a PITA.
