Could I Make It Work?

So I noticed the other day that I need a new rear shock, I sometimes bottom out with the one I have. Unfortunately I am broke. I have the opportunity to get a 99 Bandit 6 shock for a decent price I think. Can I make that work? Or does anyone have any better ideas?

Start by trying to find the shock lengths and strokes and see if they are close enough to work. Then make sure the mountings are the same type. Spring rate info would be good too. If the spring on the bandit is just as weak you won't be gaining much.

Oh well if that is the case then there is no point. I need something that will help! 

Try to at least find a shock that came from a bike that is close to the VFR's weight, biased towards a little heavier bike would be better as most bikes are undersprung to start with.....

Bandit 6, per the wisdom of the Interwebz, is only 306mm.

Try finding a new spring. That would be the easiest way. Might be around $100 unless you can find one off of an old shock that would work.

check to see if any of these would work for you. The Ninja 250 one might actually work. They have really long shocks, I think around 13".

You will need to modify anything not specific to the VF.  IMO you should just buy a used factory shock.

Have you checked the JDM web site?  Jamie is your best source for improving your V4 suspension.  Unless of course you have the specialized tools needed to safely remove and reinstall a shock spring.

Like the man said, Mr. Daugherty is the man when it comes to Interceptor suspension. I am patiently waiting for one for my 1000F
