Help me buy a 5th gen preferrably yellow but can live with any color! Low miles would be helpful. Would like to keep it local to Az and SoCal. Can y'all keep your eyes open. if someone finds one in their area and it works out beers/dinnner on me as a finders fee.
Also, if anyone would like to provide some pricing points and where i should be cost wise for a 5 gen with xxxx miles. Should i just use the nada guide?

Try http://www.searchtempest.com. It is basically a search engine that gather all Craigslist from all cities, all of them, all USA if you want.
You will see a lot of add expired but you won't miss an active one. It is a time saver as Craigslist is time consuming when you want to shop around.
I have a 2000 yellow VFR that I paid $3300 3 months ago...it needed tires, chain & sprockets. There was one here in Vegas at a dealer (Red), Carter Motorsport but really$$ like $4700.

There's one in Santa Monica too. Thing looks like you can eat off it. 3500.00 with 40k. Guy seems pretty straight up as well and has a few upgrades. is 3500 too much for a 40k 5 gen?

Well, it depends on how pristine, I paid $3000 for an '01 with 16k miles, with a clean title an two previous owners but it needed some work, new chain & sprockets, new seat cover and some cracked/scratched plastic. Other than that she was in decent shape but was also pretty much stock, just a set of aftermarket rider foot pegs. I felt that was a good price for what I was getting.
Personally the one for $2700 sounds like it's a good deal, 29k mileage, aftermarket exhaust, decent tires, looks clean and garage kept. But another thing to consider is the care and riding of the vehicle, the higher mileage one has definitely been ridden more an the owner seems to have taken really good care of it, but he is more than likely going to be more attached to it and less willing to negotiate a lower price considering the cleanliness of it. The bigger question is whether you see a few scratches as being an issue and paying another $8k for a higher mileage (again not really an issue) but more pristine set of plastic is worth it to you. I have a thing for function before fashion, as unless you are ultra careful and/or very anal about the upkeep of your bike's tank/body work, it's going to get nicked, scratched and possibly dropped at some point during your ownership. For $8K you can not only get touring gear, i.e. tank bag, side cases, top case, etc., you could probably get a good paint job on top of that to boot.
I would just get a few prices from KBB and NADA guides to see what the average price is for what you are looking for, as this always seems to be a good litmus for what should be a fair price.

The one for 3500 is definitely better pics than the one for 28 however they both seem nice. 28 is more appealing to me obviously. We'll have to see how it works out, they need to be cool with communication or it's all for nothing. And i need full disclosure, lots of people have memory lapse when it comes to talking negative about a sale at all, thinking it'll go south quick. 5 hrs is a long haul to get lied to or lied to by omission.

that dallas bike would be perfect. I have no time for a fly and ride. Phx with a couple million people should yield some of these. I guess i just need to keep checking.
