Dead Vfr (Electrical)

I went to start my '91 the other day. Everything was normal, turned the key on and everything functioned. Hit the start button and everything went down. No lights whatsoever. I haven't done much since other than to check voltage. Key off I get almost 13volts. Key on I get .3 volts. Just asking if this is an obvious problem before I start checking grounds and whatnot. I have checked fuses and found nothing blown.

Put jumper cables on from a car but dont start the car and see if the bike starts. I'm thinkin bad battery .

Went through something very similar recently.....
Fix was I tightened all the grounds on the bike and the power and voltage came back to normal. Especially check the main ground wire connected to the battery's negative terminal to the engine.....

If still no joy with different battery or earth screw,

the key ignition switch wires under the key, sometimes the solder can start to go and then fail under load...(that one took me 8 months to find when it happened to my '91!)

The r/r connector block, or the 3 yellow wire block that connect the stator wires like to melt and fail also.

Issues with the RR tend to reveal themselves on longer rides.  With the OP's condition, I think it's more likely that there is a bad connection somewhere, or possibly the battery as stated above.

Well, my first instinct was a bad battery. After checking grounds and connections I finally had my garage where I could get a car in and put jumper cables on it. Sure enough I got power right away. New battery in and I'm back in business. Now if it would just stop raining.
