Wheel swap is it possible

What are the pro/cons of swapping out my rear wheel for the 3rd gen style with more spokes (I'm fairly certain that's the style of wheel I'm after)?  I've seen it done. Is it as simple as I'm hoping it is?  :blink:

There are no pro's or cons. Aesthetics are the only difference. Very slight reduction in weight.

Didn't the width of the rear rim increase by .5" in '99?  I wouldn't call it a pro or con, but something to be aware of when tire shopping..

I don't know what year they changed, but I believe you are right... the coveted 8 spoke rear rim is a 1/2" more narrow then the 5th gen.

I stand corrected... thank you.  The OP in the link also points out that the weights of the 3rd and 5th gen rims are the same.

Good luck on your search, I was lucky I was able to get one for my '01 and one for my '09. Both were posted here on the forum in the classifieds. I should probably say thanks again to members RollinAgain and Grizfan for selling me theirs. Expect to pay close to $300, unless you get really lucky and find a seller who doesn't know what they have.

I found a 2 Bro CF pipe for my '01 on eBay ($140/shipped) but it's not a high mount version so I'm going to look into getting a mid-pipe made for it, and I'm way beyond lunch money at this point, but isn't that what credit cards are for? :wink:

Oh yeah, check on craigslist as well, I've seen people sell their older non running VFRs and some of them have the 8 spoke wheel on them. In fact I was tempted t buy this 93 just for the wheel and part out the rest to get some $ back. Fortunately I found the one Grizfan was selling, a lot harder to explain to the wife that I bout an old bike just for the wheel and I'll make my money back as long as someone buys the parts...

Perks of being 20 and single, no wife to explain to. Downside to being 20 and a college student, lack of income. Guess I'll have to pick up a second job :unsure:
