I currently ride a 6th gen, but am thinking about trading up to the 7th gen. I read about the changes for 2012, but I really like the red over the blue. Also, the insurance is almost half that of the 2012 model. Aside from the traction control and the LED turn signals, I don't see much of a difference. I checked my local dealers and only one has a 2012 and they are asking $13,100. Another dealer had a 2012 on special for $11,200, but it sold about a week ago.
Another dealer has a 2010 with 2400 miles for sale asking $9,999. This seems a bit high considering last year there were leftover 2010s for sale at $10,500.
For those of you coming from a 6th gen into a 7th gen, what are your impressions?
Having both, the 6th Gen sees very little seat time. The 7th is far and away the best motorcycle I have ever had. Period. All motorcycles make me smile when I first take off on them, this one leaves me still smiling when I get off of it after a long day.
In my area, the used 2010's are listed for the price you mentioned above so that price is close I'd say. Of course, if you walk in and offer 9k, I'd be surprised if they wouldn't take it. Either way, the bike is good enough, in my opinion, to pay the price of admission. They are fantastic machines.
As I've been considering selling the 7th, I've thought I'd list if for $8k or so, DCT, 20k miles blah blah blah. $9,999 for used is too high, IMO. And yes, go make an offer. I got them to take 3k off their asking price, and that was in Jan 2012. These babies aren't exactly flying off dealer floors, and the NE seems to have the best deals.
As for impressions, the big things are the power and the brakes. Comparatively, the power is just ridiculous. The 6th feels like a wet noodle in comparison. And the brakes are flat-out brilliant, probably the best I've ever experienced. That said, the extra weight is no fun, and most people seem to dislike the 1st/2nd gear castration on the 2010. It's an upgrade in almost every way, I just happen to not really love mine that much.
There was a 2010 that sold on eBay for $7,999 with 2400 miles. It was at a semi-local dealer so I drove to see it one day, was in good condition, just a bit dirty. Dirt in the creases, bug guts on the fork and on the inside panels, but it just needed a good detailing. Seems like it was a great price, however I think I'd want a new 2012 if I were to pull the trigger on one of these.
Ive got my 10 for sale currently, 10.5 with OEM hard cases, or 9K without. There was another 10 that went super cheap on ADVrider for high 7K. Seems like the ones who want to move ASAP go high 7K - 8K and if you don't mind waiting then you can price in the 9's. Ill prob end up selling the cases separately as people don't seem to want them on the bike.

To further update this thread, and also for people selling their bikes and other people considering a 2010, a new 2010 with 0 miles just sold on eBay for $9,200. I had bid up to $9,100, and I likely could have gotten this bike for $9,300, but I decided to let it go and focus on a 2012. Fantastic deal, however. Hopefully I won't regret passing on it.
Coupled with the used one that sold last week for $7,999, that gives a pretty firm picture on the value of these bikes currently. Great for buyers, bad for the sellers.

GLWS. It is always better to de-farkle the bike, pawn off the bits separately, and sell the bike as close to stock as possible. Not every rider likes the same kind of mods, so they typically don't add as much to the selling price of a bike, as what you can get selling them separately.
Just watched an auction on eBay where a 2010 with 7600 miles sold for $5,766. What a deal.
To each their own but I personally like mine and am glad I waited for the 12. Like others have said, crazy power and brakes that are brilliant. Yes she is chubby, but hey, I kind of like it that way lol. Be patient and a 12 will present itself sooner or later. I walked out the door with mine for 11300 and she was out of the crate, not even on the showroom floor.

I actually just read your thread the other day. I do want a 2012 over a 2010, however I can get a smoking deal on a 2010, I'd be inclined to give it a shot.
I think this winter there will be plenty of 2012s on deep discount.
