This is my second VFR(1997-first) but i had alot of bikes in between. I must be brain dead but i can't figure out how to take the seat off. I know some bikes have key slots to release the seat or they bolt on. If anyone knows please share the secret with me.

thanks Tom
Take the key and go to the seat lock on the left side of the seat by the passenger part- turn key, pull lever down, pull up seat.
Process for removing the rear seat should be very similar to removing the seat on your 97 VFR. They helmet lock is attached to the left side passenger footrest bracket.
As Mello suggested, insert the ignition key in the lock, turn key counter-clockwise approx 90 degrees, pull down on the lever on the bike side of the lock mechanism while lifting the rear of the seat and it should come right off at the back. Then pull the seat to the rear of the bike and lift off.
If the passenger pegs and lock have been removed, look for a cable toward the riders left sticking outside of the under seat tray. Pull the barrel at the end of the cable then lift the seat. In any of the cases, don't pull on the seat while engaging the lock. Pull while holding it already released.
I got it off last night-It all came back to me. Now I can attach my wire for my heated gear. Battery looks pettty new but the release cable needs some lube spray. I was happy to see a lovely power commander smiling at me after i lifted up the seat. thanks again guys and ride safe.
