Can someone with a 4th gen stock exhaust take some pics of what she looks like from underneath? I'm considering ditching my collector box, but if I do, I'll move to a non-standard exhaust. Maybe 2 GP style shorty's, maybe something else. But first, I just want to see what things look like from under there.
Ideally, I'd like a pic from underneath (do you 4th genners have a centerstand? I know putting on a 4th gen exhaust on a 3rd gen requires a delete), one from the front, behind the chin fairing, and one from inside the rear wheel (prefferable with a ruler showing engine/swingarm/tire clearance). Of course any other pics would be appreciated.
Are you sure you are talking about a 4th gen bike.
The 4th gen does not have a "Collector" or "Boom box" (as some would call them).
All it has is an enlargement of ID/OD of the pipe where the four separate pipes meet under the bike and connect to the muffler can section.
The 3rd gen on the other hand did have a collector/boom box (which I think must act as some sort of resonator) that I think some eliminate by installing a 4th gen system to replace it.
Are these any good? They are the closest to your request that I have. There are several more. I refurbished my '95 FR exhaust in 2005. It had a centre stand as in the pix.
Two years later the tail of the collector cracked. I repaired it before replacing with a Motad - excellent UK kit. I've still got the rusty bits hanging in the garage!
If you remove the pipes, get the bike raised on blocks about 8" then the pipes can twist enough to come out without removing the centre stand - or at least they do on a 4th gen..
I'm not looking for a how to. If I make the switch, it will include modifying the stock 4th gen headers to something custom. I just an idea of where things are in the stock formation to see what may be required.
