I replaced my screen this weekend with an MRA Vario and (of course) what started as a simple swap turned into a take-the-whole top-fairing-off-saga.
The main reason was the squidgy rubber thread housing in the screen frame sort of exploded when I took the old screen out. I had to bodge a repair with superglue and the only way to properly replace it again was take the entire top fairing/cowl off.
Anyway - as a VFR newbie but a reasonably experienced low level bike tinkerer, it wasn't too difficult mainly due to this excellent guide http://www.vfrdiscus...val-on-5th-gen/ so thanks to zoomzoom for that. Don't be put off and take regular tea breaks with a biscuit!
The worst part were the stuuuupid plastic fairing clips. Or maybe it was me being stupid and impatient. Either way I need new ones now... :blush: Any recommendations on a good replacement as they seem to be a bone of contention for many?
Bonus silver lining was I'd been putting off replacing my headlight bulbs with Osram NightRider (supposedly super duper much brighter) versions so got that done too.
I'm not sure if they deliver to the UK, but surely you can find some bulk fastener place.
As far as the plastic clips go, I've used automotive expansion clips with either a push plunger or a screw plunger. Problem here is that many of the holes are just undersized for a common 1/4" clip and removal of these alternate clips is generally not as easy as the factory clips. I've used the aftermarket clips in many of the places I do not frequently need to access (eg: ECU cover in tail), and scavenged the OEM clips for the fairings, which I have the annoying habit of constantly removing for some stupid thing or another. Of all the clips I have tried, I prefer the OEM style where you push down the center section of the head and extract the clip.
