Installed shorai lithium iron phosphate battery

Mine failed after a year but the customer service from Shorai was excellent. You file a claim online and pay for the original to be shipped back to them and they send a new battery. I now have the '18' and originally had the '14' not sure if that changed because of the failures of the design or maybe the VFR is tougher on batteries. It's a great idea and product - we'll see if the replacement lasts longer.

Digitallyhip, I got the LFX18 BS12 model.  It's what Shorai said was the correct replacement for the '07 VFR.

Wgregt, glad to know you've never had an issue with your Li battery.  I was a bit hesitant to put this on my VFR so close to the CC Tour.  But I figured it's better than keeping the weak, going-on-seven-years OEM battery. 

Glad to see another satisfied Shorai customer... RC45  standard recommendation is smaller LFX14A4-BS12 and I insulated mine against the heat...

The OEM battery on my 2007 has become weak.  After over 6 years of service I figured it was time to replace it.  I got the Shorai Lithium Iron Phosphate battery.  I read a lot of reviews on this new family of batteries so went in it with eyes wide open.  Since I don't live in a cold climate and I don't leave the bike in the open overnight, any cold start issues should not be a common occurrence.

Here is the new battery.  It's amazingly light and much smaller than the lead acid battery it is replacing. 

Here is the battery installed.  Check out the nearly 1" of clearance to the side of the box!  I only installed the pads on that side down below about half the height of the battery.  Don't worry I straightened out the negative connector so it's not crooked like that.

Now the VFR spins right up and starts quick!  I think it handles better too since I must have dropped 5 pounds!  I keed.  I really couldn't tell the difference in handling.  The test is going to be if/when I ever have to start in cold weather.  Shorai recommends "warming" up a cold battery by putting the ignition to ON with headlights on for about 30 seconds in very cold weather. 

Starting has never been an issue with my Shorai... my 5th gen fires up every time.  Seems to supply better current than the conventional battery because the motor spins over so quickly.  I've started down to 45F and it flips right over no problem.

Did you find out why it failed? Was it a defect in the battery? How's the replacement doing?

Curious to know because I'm planning on also trying out a Lithium battery if when it comes time to replace my regular one.....

The  first  one's were  over rated amperage  wise .  When  they  replaced  it  they  sent  me  the next  size up  and  even  had  another stronger  battery  above   it  which  they  did not  have  in 2011 The  first one  struggle  to  start  the  bike  on  a  cold  mourning,  no  matter  how  long i waited  to  start  the  bike,  the  new one  no  hesitation  bike starts  right up..

I was just thinking that battery on my 07 probably won't last much longer. When it's time, I plan on replacing in with a Shorai as well. I saw them at the NYC show a few years ago and have followed them since.

I would  buy  it  again  ...

Did you buy the LFX19A4-BS12 or the LFX18A1-BS12? What did you pay?

I've got the same battery, the same bike, and live in the same climate, Rogue. I also have a crapload of stuff hooked up to it (heated grips, HID headlights, etc) and it has never given me a single starting issue in probably 10k miles so far. I think you'll be happy with it.
