I have some questions concerning the PowerComander/PC for a 5th gen.
I have one, and a shop installed it and build a custom map for my current Pipercross air filter and aftermarket (Dino) muffler.
It works nice, but whit the Pipercross air filter the power below 3000rpm suffers as the air filter use all area for the filter, where a stock, as a K&N uses a smaller area. It way better whit the custom map, but still. It really is a pain riding in the city at low speeds and traffic, spechally 2 up. Its very strong in the upper rpm thro, like that part a lot, and as I tried the K&N (whit the custom map) it runs fine at lower rpm but really struggle at higher rpm. Now the PC came whit a disc that has some maps, and I´m considering putting in a different map. The thing is, I don´t have the current map stored anywhere, can I store it to the computer from the PC?
Also is there any difference compare to stock or whit a PC on a bike stock aside a K&N air filter. My current muffler is falling apart and I could get a mint stock muffler for a great price. Why stock, well locally the police is very intrested in the noice levels these days, and my current muffler also has no marking that it´s street legal.
Hi there, Im running a highrise staintune pipe, k&n air filter with a PC3 on my 2001 bike. I had a custom map made with the bike having spent a couple of hours on the dyno to perfect it and it has perfect fuelling from 3000rpm to redline and 107.4rwhp but below 3000rpm it is juddery but to be honest it's a V4 thing. I've had 3 5th gens and they have all been average below 3000rpm and juddery similar to a v-twin down low. Before I fitted a PC3 my current vfr was shit below 4000rpm to be honest and after setting up it gained 5hp but more importantly better fuelling.
The only way to have good fuelling all across the rev range is a dyno map with the dynojet laplink software with extra tweaks by the tuner, anything else is hit & miss.
As the guys have said, to get it perfect you need a good dyno and good tuner.
Also what model PC is it? The PC3 usb has more tuning available and an easier interface than the pc2.
On my 5th gen I'm running a K&N, custom high pipe (most like Staintune), de-PAIRed. It was running rich before the PC2 I put on, so I loaded up a map someone else did for most like my setup and just leaned it out slightly. It performs well across the revs, but would do better with a PC3 and dyno.
Its a PC III I have.
I will eventually try out the bike whitout the PC, K&N filter and stock muffler, and see how it rides.
Well first testride whit PC unplugged and stock muffler as a K&N airfilter, as close to a stock bike I can get, is done.
Result, very nice power, the struggle below 3k is gone (ok its no rocket but far better as before) and high rpm power is enough for me. Generally the power is more rideable and smoother. Less vibrations to! I will try the PC whit a map for a aftermarket air filter and see how it works, if not better, I might put the PC for sale.
Seriously make an appointment at a real motorcycle tuner with a dyno and have your bike professionally tuned.
