Found a new set of Q3s for the VFR 1200 for $182.00. This takes into account the 5% discount and the 40.00 rebate from Dunlop,good until the end of July. No shipping to Florida.
Might anyone have any experience with the Q3s on the 1200?
The pricing sure does sound enticing after all is said and done.
Not checked the weight difference between the Dunlop's and Michelins?
just picked up a set for a trip to the gap, but haven't tried them yet. Great price. Given the weight of the bike I wouldn't expect them to last long but a great tire on the 1000RR.

Just an addition to my post..Had a set of single compound Michelin Pilot Powers (don't remember if the PP comes in other variations)
but they lasted 7200 miles. I am pretty easy on tires so I'm wonderin how the Q3s would fare?
Given my riding style if 6500 miles seems doable on the Qs I'd be satisified! I'm a solo rider.

Have a set on my track bike - Cbr600rr - so not qite the same as Vfr1200 -I like them - heat up fast- stick - nice turn in.
Did find them a bit different in beginning - sidewalls are so stiff they don't bend/deform same as other tires I have run so they have a different "feel" - not bad just different. Took about a day to get used to then I didn't even notice.
I have erased the rear in 4 track days (2 days highspeed track and 2 days tight technical track) and front prob has 2-3 more days and thats it. Nice even wear - just wear fast. On a 1000Cbr at the track expect short life :)
Just had 3 sets delivered for a track day weekend this weekend. Will let you know our thoughts next week.
Greg, be interesting to see if my numbass can discern the same early use feel differences that you note. Or maybe the VFR is heavier than the CBR and will flex the sidewalls more...who knows.

Road trip to Atlanta to rough up the Carvers for not providing full track report on Q3's. 007 loves the things on his K bike but the lean angle and speed he runs that thing at is a little faster than most people's track antics so maybe he just gets them to proper temperatures. Steve likes the wear too which could possibly mean he gets two days out of a tire now. :beer:

With these mileages I would not opt for the Q3's if I were in your saddle. I would consider the Bridgestone T30 or the Pirelli Angel GT as both have more than enough traction for any street situation as well as better rain traction than the Q3's and you should see more than 10,000 miles from either of those based on you getting 7,200 miles from a set of Pilot Powers.

Not much to say about them because we were astounded at the grip and lean angle available but wish we had at least one of the VFR's shod with S20's for back to back comparison.
Next track day will be S20 on at least one bike and maybe PP3, Q3 on the other 2 for comparison.
Road Atlanta might be too fast for us. We would consider Barber though...

i have ran dunlops since 1989 and never had any problems with them-- michellin fronts cup- but for that kinda money id get 2 sets put 1 in the closet
Corner Carver nailed it. Q3's? Sure for a trackday. I wouldn't use them anywhere else with a VFR12. you'll be replacing them in no time. Go with a high quality ST tire instead.
So I had my new track toy out this past weekend and my buddy points out a big gash in my Q3 rear tire. Thinking that he was messin' with me I blew it off at first but then realized it went nearly the full width of the tire. Finished the weekend on it with no issues even setting a new record lap time for myself but it's a bit unnerving considering this tire has less than 250 miles on it. After getting home I hit the interwebs and realize it's somewhat common. I've got an email into Dunlop but no response yet.
Anybody else run across this??

I am on my 4th set of Q3s and never seen anything like that gash.
What I can say is they are the best combination of wear and grip in a true high performance tire I have seen yet. In fact nothing is even close. I can go through an ST tire combo in the same miles as the Q3s if I do a lot of sport riding in the mountains. With the $50 rebate everyone on this board should just try a set of the Q3s and get some firsthand experience with the technological improvements from modern M/C tires. They are measurably better than anything in their price range.
Switchblade will tell you I don't even like to ride with other people if they don't have them on their bike. He hears me bitch at him every time he has another tire on his VFR. :mad:

I ran across a few threads about it. Here's a lengthy one on ZX6R. Seems like Dunlop is replacing them. I have a hard time living with it with only a couple hundred easy miles on it.
I roasted my previous set on the VFR and didn't notice it on them. I certainly love how well they stick!!
