Vfr Gen 8 Shifter

Question: several of the magazine reviewers have commented that they are getting false neutrals while on their test rides. Is anyone else (actual owner/riders) experiencing this?

I believe one magazine commented that they got false neutrals while testing a bike that had the factory quick shifter installed while doing full throttle clutchless shifting. The real question is this, was it a bike abused by several other magazines before they got to it?

My 2014 VFR800FD shifts smoothly and flawlessly. After the first ride on this bike any considerations of a future quick shifter went out the door, no need for that stuff, Ill stick to shifting with a clutch.

I was just thinking today how nicely it does shift.

I haven't seen this yet, but I am a lazy shifter and miss second a lot, so I installed a Factory Pro kit which solved the issue. I have seen the bike lose track of what gear I am in on the display, but who looks at that stuff anyway :)

Thanks all for the feedback. Glad to hear things are ok with it. I'm looking forward to getting one next year so was wondering if there was something to it in this year's model and should wait for next years. Glad everyone is happy with theirs :)

Hi Windyrun - No issues to date. Approx 600 miles and the transmission shifts super nice. Maybe its just me, but I'm able to ride this bike faster, with more confidence, than any bike I have ever owned. This includes a 6th gen, and a couple of Ducatis.

I feel the same way!!! The wife said the same thing on her 1st ride on it.

No problems with missed gears. Also agree with Sixbeans, this bike handles better than any I've ever owned - including a ZX10R and three CBRs.

I agree, it handles better than my old CBR600 did. I have a ton more confidence on this bike than I ever did on the CBR, the multiple R6's a good friend had, the ZX-9R and R1 another good friend had. Definitely wouldnt change a thing about the suspension.

On a recent ride I had no problem staying with an R1, a GSXR1000, a GSXR600, an R6, and a CBR900RR.

I have over 2000 miles now, and have been riding this bike every day to work minus 3 since the middle of june when I got it.

I did notice that it is easy to tell when the air pressures are off by only a few PSI. When the tires are only a few PSI low it rides noticeably rough over bumps and holes in the road (bumps you right off of the seat hard on some). The last 2 days I noticed the difference, I set the tire pressures up about 2-3 PSI where they belong this morning and it rides much more smoothly on the same roads and bumps. I also noticed this about a month ago when the tires were a few PSI lower than recommended (36 front, 42 rear).

I just picked up my new 2014 red deluxe yesterday, and I would have to agree with the handling claims. Even though I spent the last 4 years and 36000 miles carving up the canyons on my 07, I never could get rid of that last 1/8" of chicken strips! On my first ride yesterday, with less than 100 miles on it, I already have zero strips! It's amazing how much smaller and lighter it feels. Thanks for the heads up on the tires...I had mine at my usual 34, 38 that I ran on my 07, but now I think I'll go ahead and bump them up to the 36, 42 specs.

One thing I have noticed is that it seems a little too easy to kill it taking off from a stop. Maybe I'm used to my old bike being geared down (+2R), but I'm finding that I have to rev it up more and ride the clutch a bit to take off smoothly. But I'm not complaining...So far, I'm quite happy with my new Viffer :biggrin:

Congrats on the ride! Where'd you pick yours up at? I haven;t hit any false neutrals on mine. The clutch is different than any bike I have had to date, but after 1 day of riding, no issues.

The demo bike I rode during the Oregon Trail meet last month had a quick shifter on it. I didn't experience any false neutrals; as far as the quick shifter goes, full throttle on shifts are fun and I might even consider getting one if I had the 2014.

Got it from Fay Myers. They didn't have any and had to drive to Boulder to pick one up. I was stuck there for about 4 hours. I haven't had any false neutrals either. Had less than 24 hrs and already got 260 miles on it and already did my first Deckers run...It handles HP hill better than my 07 :-)

I've caught three false neutrals, all in the first 200 miles, one was between 4th and 5th, caught every time and didn't redline on any of them. Hasn't done it in the past 300 miles. I attribute all of them to a lazy shifter foot ;)
